How Far Along: 38 Weeks
Due Date: February 6, 2014
Boy or girl: Baby boy
Baby’s Development:
Your baby has really plumped up. She weighs about 6.8 pounds and is over 19 1/2 inches long. She has a firm grasp, which you’ll soon be able to test when you hold her hand for the first time! Her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb. Wondering what color your baby’s eyes will be? If she’s born with brown eyes, they’ll likely stay brown. If she’s born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time she’s 9 months old. –babycenter.com
Movement: Per usual, this little guy is quite active. In fact, I ended up having to go to the hospital after one of my non-stress tests this week because of it! Everything else measured just fine, but because he wouldn’t calm down long enough to establish a baseline for his heart rate, I had to go get monitored for longer. His little flurry of activity cost me 3 hours in a hospital bed!
The Bump:
Symptoms: I’m definitely nesting still, although pretty much everything is done so I am now re-cleaning things. I have had some nausea back, most likely because of how big he is & how squished everything is getting. I’ve had plenty of contractions, which have been waking me up at night sometimes even. &Of course, I still have the whole high blood pressure/headache thing, which we’re still keeping a close eye on.
Cravings: No ongoing cravings, but glancing at Instagram lately causes me to want allthethings. Even when I’m not hungry, I find myself wanting whatever my friends have right that minute.
Food aversions: Hot dogs, which is annoying because Shane has been on a hot dog kick this week. Justin’s been having to handle that like he did for all of the meat for the first three months.
Medical stuff/appointments: This has been an interesting week. It started last Saturday with a trip to L&D when my blood pressure was ridiculously high. I wanted to just go home & wait it out, but Justin being the sensible one took me in. Of course, as soon as I got there, it was normal- but I still had to stay for two hours for monitoring anyway.
Monday I had my weekly OB visit, and aside from high blood pressure everything was good. He was measuring right on target &he is definitely in position. Due to my blood pressure though, we scheduled an induction to be on the safe side: if he’s not here by this Friday, January 31st, I’ll be going in at 4am!
Tuesday was the first non-stress test of the week, and that’s the one where I ended up in the hospital because he was so hyper. Aside from that, everything measured perfectly. I went back on Friday & he passed every test with flying colors right away- it was a quick & painless visit!
Something I am excited about: Meeting my little boy this week!
Something I am not so excited about: I’m really hoping this kiddo comes on his own before our scheduled induction. Part of the reason is that I want to go earlier than Friday so that I can finally stop having these contractions {I’m aware that I’ll have to have a lot first, but at least they’ll be productive!} and part of the reason is that I just want him to be able to come on his own terms, but safely. I could have turned down the induction {or at least, postponed it to up to 42 weeks} but due to the potential risks to both myself & baby due to my BP, it’s just better to induce. But that doesn’t mean I want to.
Baby purchases: Baby boy’s curtains came this week so aside from some little décor & trinkets, his nursery is finally done! I’ll do a real post on his nursery one day but for now here are a couple sneak peeks from Instagram:
Shane’s Thoughts: Right now, Shane’s just focused on the sleepover he gets to have at the grandparents’ house when baby comes more than the actual baby. He is excited, but he just can’t wait for his sleepover! I think it’ll be good for him &a good way to transition into big brotherhood.

Hugs I hope he decides to come before Friday. I do understand how you feel. I had to have scheduled c-section with my third child and I just hated “scheduling” it. I would have preferred to let her come on her own time.
