Well, it’s official- I’m in the third trimester! I haven’t updated in awhile because between Halloween & my birthday last weekend, I’ve been playing catch-up around here as it is. But I thought that since this week marks the official start of the third trimester, I was overdue.
How Far Along: 28 Weeks
Due Date: February 6, 2014
Boy or girl: Boy!
Baby’s Development:
By this week, your baby weighs 2 1/4 pounds (about the size of a large eggplant) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of his head to his heels. He can blink his eyes, which now sport lashes. With his eyesight developing, he may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. He’s also developing billions of neurons in his brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

Movement: This little one cracks me up regularly. Like most babies, he has a tendency to get super active when I’m trying to go to sleep, which is obnoxious in a funny kind of way. I mostly laugh though because as I lay on my side, he seems like he’s trying to jump on the bed! He’s grown a lot in the last few weeks so his movements are definitely getting more painful, but I still enjoy them for now {except for when his feet find my bladder}.
The Bump:
Symptoms: I miss my feet, but honestly I’m doing pretty well right now. I’m starting to get sore &my body gets exhausted but it’s not too bad yet. While I still have moments of morning sickness and/or actual exhaustion, those moments are few & far between.
Cravings: Orange juice. I have been starting most mornings with a glass & it’s so refreshing!
Food aversions: Unless I’m already feeling sick, none really. I can finally be around things without needing to run into the other room.
What made me cry this week: We watched The Polar Express tonight for the first time ever, &I teared up during the scene at the end where the boy & his sister are opening presents together because I realized that next year, we’ll be preparing for Christmas with two boys! Also, the whole #SFBatKid thing had me crying big, fat, ugly tears of happiness all day Friday.
Medical stuff/appointments: I have an appointment today, actually. This time I will be taking the glucose screening test {I have to drink it down before I go} so wish me luck!
Something I am excited about: Baby boy finally has a name! We came up with it last weekend & I am so excited. We aren’t ready to announce it yet, but I’m so happy to have that huge task accomplished & even more excited that we have a name for our baby boy!
Something I am not so excited about: Nesting is kicking in, right in time for the holidays to kick off. I had the realization recently that we’re at T-minus 2 months until I want to be prepared: Shane came at 37 weeks & 1 day {which is just 1 day into being full term} and so I want to be sure we’re ready at that point this time too just in case. Well, that’s January 16th, only two short weeks after the New Year! I am excited to be in the home stretch, but there’s still a lot to do so I’m not looking forward to adding all of that to the already busy holiday season {especially with third trimester exhaustion right around the corner}.
Baby purchases: A couple of weeks ago, we purchased paint for the nursery {which Justin will be painting next weekend}. We also headed to the mall to get clothes for both boys &I found some adorable things that I can’t wait to show you later this week!
Shane’s Thoughts: I haven’t been very good at writing down the cute things that Shane says about baby brother, but he’s still excited. I think now that it’s been so long, he’s kind of giving up on asking how much longer & is kind of just assuming baby will be in there forever. He did tell me the other day that he’d be my laundry helper until the baby comes since it’s hard for me to bend over & over, which was thoughtful of him.
This silly boy wanted to take a picture just like mommy!

Pregnancy Reveal
Have you ever been pregnant through the holidays? Have any survival tips?
Denise Taylor-Dennis says
I just started coming to your blog and I didn’t know you are pregnant so congrats. You look pretty small, I’m sure you don’t feel that way though.
Shell says
Thanks! &No, I definitely don’t feel small but it still makes me happy to hear that! 🙂

That’s so sweet he wanted to take a picture just like you! He’s going to love being a big brother!
April Decheine says
First off congratulations. My second I had in January but shoot if I remember any holiday issues. Big brother is adorable!
Penelope says
With my second I was pregnant during the holidays, but it’s actually easier to be pregnant during the winter (for me it was anyway)
Shell says
Definitely agree about the winter as far as weather goes- Shane was born in August, in Vegas, so I was 9 months pregnant in 110+ degree heat. Yuck. This time is much better for that but I also have about ten million more things to do!
Julie says
I craved orange juice when I was pregnant too! It’s usually too sweet for me, but when I was pregnant it was all I could think about. 🙂
Anne - Mommy Has to Work says
I love that Shane wanted his picture taken too!
Marcie W. says
I’m so happy to hear you’re feeling good these days. The SF BatKid story made me teary eyed too, and I have no hormones to blame it on!
Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell says
Really? You’re in the home stretch already! I’m glad you’re feeling good and you’re so cute with the way you talk about your orange juice!
Jennifer Young says
How exciting, almost there! Both of my children were conceived in Jan/Feb and born in Sept/Oct, so, sorry, I don’t have any holiday advice! 🙂
Tammy says
Well orange juice is at least a healthy craving to have! Shane is too cute 🙂 I was pregnant over the holidays with our daughter. The only tip I have is nap when you can because there is so much going on and you don’t want to miss out, but it’s so easy to get run down, and that of course is not good for you or baby.
Shell says
Naps sound lovely 🙂 That may have to be what I start doing while Shane’s at school!
Vanessa: thequeenofswag says
I’m happy to hear things are going well and he’s so cute to mirror you.
Angela says
Shane’s picture is just too cute! I’m sure it’s hard to prepare for a baby while doing holiday stuff at the same time. Hang in there!!
Lolo says
Lol, I love the picture of Shane that he wanted to take!
Colleen says
You are such a tease not telling us his name!
Shell says
I know, I don’t mean to be! I haven’t found a cute way to do it yet. I might just wait until he’s born though.
Kelsey Apley says
Hahahah love your kiddo posing with the 27 weeks sticker!!!! How exciting you picked a name :-)!!
Alesha @ Full Time Mama says
I’m not sure which of you is more adorable in the photos, you or Shane! 🙂 Time is flying! So excited! Yay for a name!!! 😀
