It’s been a big week for my first born, so I’m not surprised that it has been for my second in that he or she is gaining weight crazy quickly these days. Apparently between weeks 15 & 20 baby doubles in weight, so I’m right in the middle of that! Maybe that explains the “growing pains” I’ve been having all week.
How Far Along: 17 Weeks
Due Date: February 6, 2014
Baby’s Development:
Your baby’s skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she’s around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.

The Bump:
Symptoms: I’ve definitely had moments of sickness this week, but since I’m used to being sick all the time & just having moments of feeling okay, I’ll take the switch. I’m still tired, but it’s more from having a crazy week than actual pregnancy fatigue this week. I’m starting to have the vivid dreams everyone talks about- I only remember having one or two when I was pregnant with Shane so this is mostly new for me since it’s happening daily! I’ve had lots of growing pains {round ligament pains} this week, too.
Cravings: Nothing in particular. Salad still but not as much as last week.
Food aversions: In the moments of sickness, I can’t even acknowledge that food is a thing that exists. Aside from those moments though, I’ve been pretty good about aversions. After not eating pretty much any meat for over two months, I’ve been able to stomach a bit of it finally.
What made me cry this week: Shane starting school! Big, ugly tears. It was such a bittersweet moment.
Medical stuff/appointments: The next one is on the 16th.
Something I am excited about: I’m anxious to get moving on getting the home office turned into a nursery. We redid Shane’s room a few weeks ago when he got his new bed, and now we have lots of hand-me-down stuff {highchair, boxes of clothes, rocking chair, dresser, changing table} just lingering in either the dining room or office, waiting for the office to be cleared out so we can move everything in.
Something I am not so excited about: The actual work that goes into changing it all! It will be worth it but right now all I want to do is sleep.
Baby purchases: Nothing this week. I went to Target yesterday while Shane was at school & actually did check out the baby clothes, but pretty much everything was blue or pink. So looks like I’ll be waiting a bit more!
Shane’s Thoughts: Shane’s been very focused on school this week, so we haven’t had many talks about the baby. He’s been a bit better this week about playing with me gently but he’s 4, so he still needs some reminding.

Your baby is getting bigger. I thought the tears would stop after they were little, but no. I still want to cry even when it is something silly like one of them getting an award for Perfect Attendance.

I will be absolutely floored if you aren’t having a girl. My morning sickness, fatigue, and pregnancy dreams were so much more intense with both of my daughters.

Sounds like you are doing well! I’m guessing you’d have cried at your son starting school whether you were pregnant or not, it is very emotional.

So glad you’re starting to feel some better and can eat. My son’s first day of school was very emotional for me and I wasn’t pregnant, I can only imagine. 🙂 Heck, my son started 5th grade this year and I cried because this is his last year in elementary school. 🙁

It’s so nice when the morning sickness begins to ease up. Yay for that change!!!
