This week went really fast! While I haven’t been doing much of anything, I still can’t believe how much faster this pregnancy is going than when I was pregnant with Shane. I guess having a three year old keeps you distracted!
How Far Along: 12 weeks!
Due Date: February 6, 2014
Boy or girl: Don’t know yet
Baby’s Development:
The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby’s fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won’t be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.
Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby’s brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

Movement: Apparently baby is moving quite a bit but I still can’t feel it. Hopefully soon!
The ever-growing bump:
Symptoms: Headaches. Lots & lots of headaches. I’ve been drinking an obscene amount of water & taking Tylenol, but sometimes that isn’t enough & I have to take a quick nap or a hot shower. The morning sickness is still there but is getting more manageable- I’m finally able to leave the house without worrying about getting sick while I’m out. I’m getting close to the second trimester though so hopefully that will be gone completely soon!
Cravings: Spaghetti-O’s, BBQ chips & sour gummy worms. Not together, because I’m not that pregnant, but I crave all of them pretty much all the time.
Food aversions: Still meat. My poor husband has had some incredibly boring meals- if this keeps up I’m going to have to learn to cook some more fully vegetarian meals.
What made me cry this week: I started reading “The Art of Racing in the Rain”. I had to stop at page 2. Not even kidding. It’s a dog book & while the dog didn’t die in the first 2 pages or anything, I just could not handle myself. I’ll be picking this book back up when my hormones are slightly more regulated.
Medical stuff/appointments: Nothing this week, and I had to reschedule my next visit from the 5th to the 12th {for a really exciting reason I’ll share later this week}. I’m actually happy about this change though because now hopefully the one after that will be scheduled perfectly where we can do the gender scan!
Something I am excited about: Today is the magical 12 weeks! While I know that nothing is ever a guarantee with pregnancy and I will be nervous until this baby is in my arms, I do feel a lot more secure knowing that we just made it to the first milestone, where the risk of miscarriage drops dramatically.
Something I am not so excited about: Right now I’m pretty much excited about everything! If I really had to pick something I’d say having to get blood work done at my next appointment, but that’s almost 3 weeks from now so I’m good.
Baby purchases: Nothing yet- I wanted to wait until 12 weeks. Now that that day is here, I’m giving myself the green light. I don’t plan on going crazy though, at least not until we know the gender.

It’s amazing at how much growth has already occurred up to this point with the baby.

Headaches are NO good, especially during the summer! I’m hoping they are not around to stay. Love your cravings, yep – definitely pregnant. Looks like your belly is growing too, very cute.

Woohooo time to shop! There’s still so much you can buy without knowing the gender. I love baby shopping can you tell lol. You sound like you are doing good.
Totally gross and semi related, sort of. A friend of mine craved raw meat. Not to eat but just to smell it with one of her pregnancies. And to this day she still loves the smell of raw meat.
Shell says
I may have just gagged a little bit.
Leilani says
Funny how you don’t like meat with this pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my second daughter, I craved red meat like crazy, which was weird because I was never really big on it.
Shell says
Yeah I usually only eat turkey & chicken as it is, but when I was pregnant with my son I allowed myself to eat beef, so I was all ready to do the same this time around. But now I can’t even look at the stuff I normally eat!
Mellisa says
This was such a milestone for me to reach 12 weeks!
Anne - Mommy Has to Work says
So sorry about your headaches. I hope they go away soon!
Jennifer @ The Quirky Momma says
For me, week 12 was a sigh of relief! So much is happening in your body, and it’s really amazing to track what’s going on then look back years later.
Rachel says
How did I miss that you were even pregnant?
Congratulations!
Elizabeth (Rock-A-Bye Parents) says
Wow, I can’t believe you’re 12 weeks already! I’m so sorry about the bad headaches. Tylenol doesn’t do much for me, so I didn’t get much headache relief during pregnancy either.
Kelly @ A Girl Worth Saving says
I’m glad you’re feeling better and I also had a meat aversion early in pregnancy.
Crystal @ Simply Being Mommy.com says
Hopefully the morning sickness is on the way out! That is never fun.
Rachel @ Following In My Shoes says
I always loved knowing each week (and even each day) what was developing or starting to function … it’s fascinating to be able to “pinpoint” different things in the development of a baby! Congrats for the 12 week milestone. 🙂
Ty @ Mama of 3 Munchkins says
Can’t believe your 12 weeks already! Seems like the time is flying by so quickly!

It definitely goes by much faster with each child LOL. You look great and I am loving following along.

I am cracking up that you are craving spaghetti-o’s!

I’m just loving all the size comparisons when you post these updates. Twelve weeks is a great milestone to hit, glad you and baby are doing well so far!
