This week went SO fast! Between being in LA for three days & spending a few days getting ready for the trip before that, I feel like I blinked & skipped a week. If only the whole pregnancy could seem that fast!
How Far Along: 14 Weeks
Due Date: February 6, 2014
Boy or girl: Don’t know yet
Baby’s Development:
This week’s big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he’ll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you’re having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.
In other news: Your baby’s stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body’s growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that’s in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He’s starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby’s liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it’s doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can’t feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist’s hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

Movement: None yet, but I’ve read that since this is my second I can expect it any day now!
The Bump:
Symptoms: Still some nausea, but it’s definitely lessening. My fatigue is going away & I’ve only had one headache in the last week. Hooray second trimester! However, I’ve been having lots of “growing pains” in my belly muscles/ligaments. Still, I prefer that to the all-day sickness.
Cravings: Nothing in particular this week.
Food aversions: Still meat, but I noticed a burger actually looked good the other day. While I’m still not quite ready to eat one, that’s a promising sign that I’m starting to get better.
What made me cry this week: Every. Single. Thing. during the Disney trip. I don’t even think I can blame the pregnancy for it, it’s more a fangirl type thing {though the hormones didn’t help}. But having Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel, sing to us, seeing the real artwork used for some of my favorite movies in person, seeing the adorable trailer for the next Disney Nature film &an amazing new short- just, everything brought happy tears to my eyes.
Medical stuff/appointments: My next one is this coming Monday so I’ll have something to report then!
Something I am excited about: I just found out that I can get a gender check 3D ultrasound at 14 weeks- i.e. NOW! I don’t know that I will, but I like knowing it’s an option. {I really, really want to get one though.} I’m also excited that I am now 100% in the second trimester, no matter what book you’re reading {some say 12 weeks, some 13, and others 14}.
Something I am not so excited about: That medical appointment I mentioned? I’ll be getting blood work done. *Shudders*
Baby purchases: I bought my first baby item! At the employee Disney store on the Disney Studios lot, I picked up a cute unisex Winnie the Pooh onesie. I wanted my first purchase to be special & what’s more special than something from Disney Studios?
Shane’s Thoughts: Shane’s ready for this baby to be here now. He asked me the other day if it was time yet since my belly had gotten bigger. He’s been pretty focused on his upcoming birthday this week though &hasn’t been thinking much about the baby.

I love the special onesie you purchased! I actually bought a yellow Winnie The Pooh onesie as my first ever baby item when I was pregnant my oldest, it was passed down to all three of my kids, and I still have it.

I found out the gender for both of my children and am glad that I did. Both times I was hoping for the opposite sex and it helped to find out – it helped me prepare mentally.
