For some reason when I was a kid, I decided I didn’t like peaches. I have no idea where that came from, but when I finally tried them again as an adult I was SO sad that I’d missed so many summers of eating delicious, sweet peaches at their peak!
Now that I know how great they are, I’m making up for lost time and every summer my fridge is absolutely stocked with fresh peaches.
Peaches are delicious and sweet on their own, but they lend themselves particularly well to desserts! They hold up so great in baking and somehow become even sweeter. There are so many great baking recipes using peaches but today I’m sharing one of my absolute favorites- Peach Cobbler!
This recipe uses Crescent Rolls because it’s a nifty little shortcut that saves SO much time in the kitchen- especially great if you’re baking with kids over summer break or just don’t want to spend a hot day in a hot kitchen.
What makes this a great easy peach cobbler recipe?
The crust of this cobbler comes from crescent roll dough, which saves you SO much time and effort. And the peaches are canned, which is great because not only does it save you time but it saves you money, too.
Have a big harvest and really want to use fresh peaches? Go ahead and cut up a couple to sprinkle over the top- this cobbler is great with ice cream and it’d be delicious to add some peaches to that. But I promise you as far as the cobbler goes, canned peaches are the way to go!
What’s the difference between peach pie and cobbler?
I think we all know what pie is by now, but just in case a pie is technically a dessert with both a top and bottom crust. Meanwhile, cobblers have just a top crust and that crust itself is different- more of a biscuit dough than the usual pastry dough used in pies.
That’s one of the reasons that crescent rolls work so well here- not only are they super easy to bake with, but they’re basically biscuit dough so it’s just what the recipe calls for as a cobbler anyway! With a little cinnamon sugar added on, it’s the perfect way to top your cobbler.
Can the Kids Help Bake this Summer Recipe?
With the kids out for the summer, this is a great time to introduce them to life skills like baking. It’s especially fun teaching them to bake since it comes with it’s own sweet reward when you’re done! {And they won’t notice they’re also working on skills like fine motor skills, counting, following directions, and even chemistry!}
For this recipe, kids of all ages can handle these steps:
- Preheating the oven and greasing the dish
- Spreading the peaches
- Stirring the sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkling over the peaches
- Brushing the melted butter over the top of the dough
You might want to help your kids with these steps, depending on their age:
- Unrolling the dough and pinching the seams together
- Transferring the dough to the pan
- Operating the oven, especially putting the food in and taking it out
- Slicing pieces
