It’s been a little crazy around here lately- between busy school schedules, after school activities, work responsibilities, and trying to squeeze in some family time, I am just exhausted by the end of the day. I usually have to stay up late though to finish things up, so I need to find ways to relax when I can since I can’t just go to bed early.
One of my absolute favorite ways to relax is to take a nice, long bath! I get a break from having to nag the kids every two seconds and I can focus on me- whether I’m using a hair conditioning treatment to smooth my hair, using a DIY body scrub to exfoliate, or using a homemade massage bar to work out knots in my muscles while getting clean.
Massage bars from the store can be very expensive, but you can make your own batch at home that’ll last you way longer! {Tip: these would also make a great holiday gift, maybe paired with some bubble bath or a candle!}
Homemade Layered Massage Soaps
Supplies:
1-pound glycerin soap base
2 tablespoons coconut oil
10-15 drops ylang ylang essential oil {optional}
10-15 drops geranium essential oil {optional}
10-15 drops lavender essential oil {optional}
3 complimentary mica coloring powders
1 large microwave safe bowl or measuring cup
2 smaller bowls to separate for coloring
Spray bottle of rubbing alcohol
Massage soap mold
Instructions:
1. Cut the soap base into squares and place into a microwave safe bowl or measuring cup. Heat for 30 seconds. Repeat, stirring after each, until melted.
2. Add coconut oil to the bowl
3. Add the essential oils. Not only do these three have a beautiful floral scent, they each have properties that are anti-bacterial, Antiseptic and can boost your mood! Ylang ylang balances the oils in your skin, geranium can reduce acne and all three can calm and relax you.
4. Evenly divide your soap mixture into the 3 bowls. Mine came out to be about 4 cups, and I used 1/4 cup for each layer. Add the first mica coloring to the soap mixture in bowl #1. Blend well.
5. Spray the mold with the rubbing alcohol and pour the mixture into each mold. Spray the top with the rubbing alcohol. This prevents bubbles from forming. Allow to harden at least one hour.
6. Repeat for the next two colors.
7. Gently pop out and store in an airtight container or Ziploc bag until ready to use.
