This summer, Dalgona coffee took the world by storm. If you somehow missed it, it was a whipped iced coffee drink- if you want to try it, I shared a Caramel Pumpkin Spice Dalgona Coffee recipe!
Well now that I’m in hot-cocoa-all-the-things mode, it just made sense to try a whipped hot cocoa too! Or I guess, cold cocoa? Whatever you want to call it, it’s delicious!
Why do you need hot water for an iced hot cocoa recipe?
So the hot water in this recipe works to dissolve the hot cocoa mix. If you try to use cold water with hot chocolate mix it just kind of turns into grainy brown water.
I don’t know about you but I don’t want to have to eat my hot cocoa- at least, not unless I’m eating hot cocoa flavored treats! {See a big list of those down below!}
This also helps with the whipping, which is kind of the whole point of the recipe. So if you take nothing else away from this- it’s use hot water!
Is this the same as frozen hot chocolate?
No, but it’s similar in taste! Since it’s made using actual hot cocoa, it reminds me of frozen hot chocolate {which had a HUGE moment a couple years back!}
The consistency of this is much different though- while frozen hot cocoa is more of a slushie type of drink, this is a smooth, whipped beverage.
Can the Kids Help?
Kids can ALWAYS help in the kitchen! For this recipe, I’d suggest letting them help with:
- Mixing the hot cocoa into the water {be careful, it’s hot!}
- Add ice and milk to glasses
I’d also suggest that you help a little extra with piping the whipped cream and using the mixer, depending on the age of your kids.
