Well we’ve been home for over four months now, and I don’t know about you but my kids are getting BORED.
We have video games to play and toys to play with, and of course books to read, but I like getting my kids engaged and working with their hands on a regular basis. Sometimes that means doing fancy STEM activities, and sometimes that means upcycling a bunch of items from around the house into something you wouldn’t expect!
These Toilet Paper Roll Rockets are SO easy to make and I love that they use mostly items that you likely already have around the house. Even if you have to order a couple of the supplies, they’re super inexpensive and you can make a lot of rockets with them! {Now that toilet paper is finally back in stock!}
How can I make custom toilet paper roll rockets?
These rockets allow for so much open-ended creativity and have so many different ways to customize them! Here are just a few ideas- I’m sure you and your kids can come up with even more!
- Use your favorite stickers instead of star stickers
- Add stickers of your favorite TV or movie characters {or animals!} to the black strip to make it look like they’re looking out the window!
- Use your favorite color for the tissue paper- whether it looks like fire or not
- Use permanent markers to customize your rocket design!
Are these recyclable?
If you decide to dismantle your rockets, you can recycle certain aspects of them.
The toilet paper roll is definitely recyclable once bare, and the tissue paper that doesn’t have glue on it can be recycled. Any spare tissue paper, construction paper, etc. can be recycled.
Many cities allow {clean} foil to be recycled so check your local recycling plant’s guidelines. If they don’t take foil, you can still recycle it in your own way- check out this list of 15 ways to reuse foil!
