I’ve always been a big Nutella fan, but my kids love it even more than I do. For a long time when my older son was a toddler, I’d find at least one thing coated in a thick layer of Nutella just about every day!
Eventually he stopped randomly grabbing spoonfuls, but we still enjoy it regularly- especially in our baking!
One of our favorite ways to enjoy Nutella is with this sweet treat- a Nutella Puff Pastry Braid. One of the best parts about this easy dessert recipe is that it only uses a few simple ingredients, so the kids can help me bake it!
This puff pastry recipe uses store-bought puff pastry to make it simple as can be- all you need is the Nutella, a large egg for an egg wash, some cream cheese, and some sugar! Oh, and don’t forget the chocolate chips!
At the bottom of the post, you’ll find detailed instructions for making this delicious puff pastry dessert.
Should I bake puff pastry before filling it?
Nope, with both store-bought puff pastry sheets and homemade puff pastry you don’t bake the puff pastry ahead. At least, not for this recipe!
Can puff pastry be cooked in the air fryer?
Yes! You’ll want to make sure your puff pastry sheets are thawed fully before baking {you’ll need to do that anyway} and then you can totally air fry these if you want.
Every air fryer is different so it may require a little trial and error with your specific machine, but to start preheat your oven at 375°F and then bake the Puff Pastry Braids in there for 15-18 minutes, until puffy and golden.
If it comes out too crispy for your liking, turn the temp down next time or take it out sooner {just make sure it’s fully baked!}
What else can you do with a little bit of Nutella?
Nutella is such a great ingredient that just makes everything better, from ice creams to cake to just a straight up teaspoon of Nutella!
Here are some other recipes I love that use Nutella:
What can you use instead of nut butters?
If you can’t use Nutella- or just don’t want to- these Puff Pastry Braids can be made with all kinds of other ingredients!
If you’re wanting the same vibe, there are lots of nut butter substitutions that would work, of course. But you could also use jams {raspberry jam would be amazing in this}, fresh strawberries, or whatever your favorite flavors are! You could even take it another directions and use savory fillings!
