Is it just me, or do you also have a house that seems to magically dirty itself minutes after you’ve cleaned?
I clean every single day and yet somehow, my house manages to be messy all the time. Granted, I have two kids that don’t love cleaning up after themselves but still- there’s just always more to clean than I have time for.
BUT! I think I’ve figured it out. Now, I’m not saying that I’ve found a way to get your whole house sparkling clean at the exact same time- I’m not entirely sure that’s possible in a house that you actually live in, especially if kids, pets, and/or tired partners live there too.
However, I’ve recently started using a system that helps me make sure I’m getting to every area of my house at least once per week for a deep clean, which then makes it SO much easier to get the quick daily tasks throughout the whole house done every single day.
How do I do it? I rotate areas every day using these free printable deep cleaning checklists!
What Your Cleaning Schedule Should Look Like
Each day of the week has an assigned room that I clean on a deeper level. On Mondays I clean the bathrooms, on Tuesdays the living room, and so on. I use my checklist {grab your free printable version below!} to keep track of all the tasks that my rooms need- since those tasks will be different for everyone and their own house- and make sure to get those done on the assigned day so that each room never goes more than one week without a thorough cleaning.
Then, I use the daily checklist to quickly go through my whole house and tackle the things that need to get done daily- things like doing dishes, starting a load of laundry, picking up totally random things my kids leave on the stairs, and more.
Finally, I dedicate a little bit of time on the weekends- but not a lot, because my weekends are precious- to doing a few of the tasks on the monthly checklist. These are tasks that you can wait a little while in between, like washing throw pillows and decluttering cabinets. I do one section per weekend, so the kitchen one weekend, bathrooms the next, and so on.
Using this system helps me keep track of the many things that need to get done in the house and makes it so much easier to juggle it all. Now, I am not going to say that my house is spotless all the time- but it’s definitely passable. If you have more time or more drive to dedicate even more time to each room, go for it. But I’m able to keep my house manageable these days without spending all day cleaning every day, so I’m calling that a win!
Tips for using these checklists
- If you have a two-story house, consider printing two copies so you can keep one on each floor. It’ll be a lot easier to keep track!
- You can also consider printing two copies if you’re splitting the workload with your partner and/or your kids.
- Make these checklists reusable by laminating them or putting them into a sheet protector and using a dry erase marker to check off tasks! {You’re welcome to print as many copies as you need to though!}
- Be sure to fill in your extra tasks as needed. I recommend physically going to the room you’re evaluating to look around and see what YOUR room needs to have done daily/weekly/monthly.
