Can I make this dairy-free with an alternative ingredient?
Yes! I’m actually dairy-free so that’s how I make it for my family.
To make this dairy-free, replace the cream of mushroom soup and cream of chicken soup with a homemade version using chicken broth, cornstarch slurry, and coconut milk or a dairy-free cream alternative {I personally love Country Crock’s Heavy Cream alternative}. I haven’t perfected my own take on this homemade version yet and instead use a few from online- just do a quick google search and find the one that looks the best to you!
Can I use chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts?
Absolutely! Chicken thighs work well in this slow cooker creamy chicken recipe because they have more fat, making them extra tender and juicy. Simply follow the same instructions and adjust the cooking time slightly if needed- use your meat thermometer to check if it needs more time.

Can I add vegetables to this recipe?
Yes! If you’re trying to enhance the flavor or nutrition of this dish, add some of your favorite veggies. Some that I would recommend for this dish include green beans, baby carrots, or sun-dried tomatoes. Just add them at the beginning so they cook through with the chicken.
Can I make this in an Instant Pot instead of a slow cooker?
Yep! This slow cooker chicken recipe can definitely be adapted for an Instant Pot if that’s more your {literal} speed. Use the high pressure setting and cook for about 12 minutes, then let the pressure release naturally for 5 minutes before manually releasing any remaining pressure.

How do I know when the chicken is fully cooked?
Use an instant-read thermometer to make sure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F. The chicken should be tender and easy to shred.
What are the best side dishes to serve with creamy chicken?
This creamy crockpot chicken pairs well with wild rice, brown rice, egg noodles, or mashed potatoes. Or serve with a side of salad or steamed green beans for some extra greens.

Can I freeze leftovers, and how should I reheat them?
Store leftovers in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in a stove top pan over medium heat, and add a splash of chicken broth or heavy cream {or cream alternative} to bring back the creamy texture.
