I meal plan once a month and it’s one of the things that keeps our house running smoothly- or at least, partially smoothly. In just about half an hour I am able to figure out our dinners for the entire month and then all I have to do each week is order the right groceries for that week’s meals.
One of my hacks for meal planning in just 30 minutes a month is having themed days every week. For example, every week we observe “Meatless Monday”, where I {obviously} make a meatless meal. But the most popular themed day we have every week? Pizza Friday!
I know we are not the only family to celebrate Pizza Friday, and it’s no surprise that it’s so popular- by the time Friday rolls around, I am wanting a quick and easy recipe to make and who doesn’t love pizza?
But having the same kind of pizza every single week gets old, so we have found other fun ways to enjoy pizza every single Friday- while still getting a decent variety!
These Pizza Egg Rolls are a HUGE hit around here. They combine the delicious taste of pizza with the crunch of egg rolls- and they’re still SUPER easy to make so they’re perfect for lazy Fridays. You can easily customize them with different toppings or different dipping sauces and they’re just so much fun!
Can I Add Toppings?
You can absolutely customize your pizza egg rolls with whatever toppings you like in pizza! Some tips:
- Keep in mind that these don’t cook for very long so you’ll want whatever toppings you add to be already cooked, whether that’s sauteed veggies or {especially} meat toppings like sausage.
- Be sure to be mindful of not overstuffing since the wrappers are a specific size- you’ll want to avoid tearing!
- Want to add a sauce? You can add a little bit to the inside but it might work better as a dipping sauce instead so it doesn’t get too soggy on the inside. Play around with different combos!
Can you use shredded cheese?
Yes, totally! I used string cheese because it’s super convenient and the perfect size for these, but if you already have shredded cheese on hand or just want to use a different {or additional} cheese than mozzarella, you can totally use shredded. The cooking directions remain unchanged for this substitution!
Can the Kids Help?
Kids can ALWAYS help in the kitchen! For this recipe, I’d suggest letting them help with:
- Putting sauce, cheese, and any toppings in the eggroll wrappers
- Folding the egg rolls {depending on age and skill- and possibly with assistance}
I’d suggest an adult tackle the actual frying part as hot oil and kids don’t mix.

Pizza Egg Rolls
These delicious egg rolls are a great way to switch it up on Pizza Friday! They're super simple to make with just a few ingredients and can be made on the stovetop or in an air fryer!
Ingredients
- 1 16-ounce package egg roll wrappers
- 1 6-ounce package pepperoni, halved
- 1 14-ounce jar pizza sauce
- 10 pieces string cheese, halved lengthwise
- Oil for frying
Instructions
Fill a deep skillet or saucepan with at least two inches of oil. Heat over medium heat.
Prepare the egg rolls by placing the wrappers at an angle with the bottom corner pointing at you.
Place a small spoonful of pizza sauce in the center of the egg roll wrapper. Top the sauce with pepperoni {if desired, or other toppings of choice} and one piece of string cheese.
Bring the bottom corner of the egg roll wrapper to the center of the wrapper, covering the cheese and pepperoni.
Fold each side corner over the center, then roll the filled center up toward the top corner.
Wet the top corner slightly, then fold it over the center of the egg roll and press to seal.
Place the filled egg rolls in the hot oil and fry for 3 to 5 minutes, until the egg rolls are golden brown and begin to float.
Remove from the oil and allow to cool slightly before serving.
