Today is the unofficial kickoff of summer- and that means grilling season! We grill a lot in the summer- whether it’s hot dogs, chicken, steak, or like today- hamburgers!
We love the classics, but sometimes we like to have some fun with them, too. These Pizza Burgers are a cross between two of our favorite foods of all time- and when you try these, you’ll wonder why you didn’t mix them together sooner!

One of the best things about these Pizza Burgers is that just like an actual pizza, you can customize these as you’d like. Below I’ve shared the way that we personally prefer them, but feel free to get creative from there.
You could choose to add toppings like you’d find on a pizza, like mushrooms, olives, or even- dare I say it- pineapple. {Yes, pineapple totally belongs on pizza!} You could also add some extra red pepper flakes to kick up the spice if you’d prefer. However you like your burger- or your pizza, I suppose- you can customize it.

Pizza Burgers
Ingredients:
4 Hamburger Buns
1 Lb. Ground Beef
1 TBSP Garlic Powder
2 Tsp Onion Powder
2 Tsp Italian Seasoning
1 Tsp Red Pepper Flakes
Salt and Pepper
4 slices Mozzarella Cheese
1 cup pizza sauce
Fresh cilantro
Directions:
In a medium bowl, combine ground beef with all seasonings. Combine well and separate into four equal patties. Season with salt and pepper. Push your thumb down in the center on one side of each burger {making sure not to press all the way through}.
Grill your burgers to desired doneness- all grills will vary so keep an eye on your beef and temp as needed but here’s a good chart to reference for times.
When your burger has about 1 minute to go, add the mozzarella cheese and close the grill to allow to melt.
Remove burgers from grill and allow to rest 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat up pizza sauce in a small saucepan and pull cilantro leaves from stem. Toast hamburger buns in an oven under the broiler {watch them!} or in a toaster oven. {SUPER pinched for time? You can totally stick them in the toaster.}
When burgers are done resting, assemble burgers. Place patty on bun, top with sauce, and add fresh cilantro. If you are adding any extra toppings, now is the time.
Enjoy!
