It’s almost time for Thanksgiving! While this year has been a great big dumpster fire, we still have a lot to be grateful for so I’m definitely still planning on celebrating.
This Thanksgiving will look very different for many families, since travel restrictions and safety concerns are still prominent. Whether you’re celebrating with loved ones or having a small celebration at home this year, I hope you’re able to take some time to count the things you’re thankful for in this crazy time.
I’m not entirely sure what Thanksgiving will look like here yet, but I do know one thing for sure- there will be plenty of delicious food! Like most people, we don’t tend to make the traditional Thanksgiving recipes any other time of year, so we are looking forward to things like turkey, green bean casserole, stuffing, and of course, pumpkin pie!
Can these be made ahead for Thanksgiving Dessert?
Totally! As long as you have enough of the mason jars for the amount of servings you need, you can just double the recipe as needed and make these ahead of time. They need to fully cool before serving anyway- just make sure you don’t top with the whipped cream and cinnamon sugar until serving!
To make these ahead, just whip them up the day before and stick them in the fridge- make sure to close the mason jar lid tightly to keep them fresh!
Can You Give Pumpkin Pie in a Jar as Holiday Gifts?
These would make SUCH a fun and delicious gift for those hard to buy for people on your list, like teachers, neighbors, and friends. I do have a few tips though!
Since these are ready-to-eat, you’ll want to make sure you can deliver these shortly after you’re done making them. I would NOT add the whipped cream before delivery, but maybe bring your recipient their own can as part of the gift in case they don’t have some at home.

Alternatively, you could turn it into a gift in a jar like I did with these Peppermint Hot Cocoa Gift in a Jar mason jars, but since there are so many wet ingredients that can’t be added pre-emptively to the jar it might not be as aesthetically pleasing as you might want.

Can the Kids Help?
Kids can ALWAYS help in the kitchen! For this recipe, kids of all ages can help with almost every step. There are no knives involved, just a lot of measuring and mixing- so it’s basically a math and science lesson in the kitchen!
If the kids are helping though, I suggest that you help a little extra with the oven part- and if you’re using a stand mixer or hand-held electric mixer, make sure little ones know to keep their fingers away from the beaters!
