We’ve always enjoyed doing special breakfasts at least once during the weekend. It’s a special time for us because my husband leaves for work at 4am during the week, so the weekend is the only time we have breakfast as a whole family.
Usually one day on the weekend we’ll stray from our usual bowls of cereal and either make pancakes, waffles, or sometimes even go out and pick up bagels or donuts.
Donuts are always a hit around here, whether we buy them or make them. These S’mores Donuts are so fun and perfect for summer- s’mores are pretty much the official dessert of summer, right? Now they can be the official breakfast of summer, too!
The Donut Pan I Recommend
There are lots of donut pans out there, but I have- and love- this one from Wilton. {Please note that this is an affiliate link.} Since this recipe makes 12 donuts, I recommend getting 2 of the pans since they each make 6, that way you don’t have to do two batches. Also they stack really well so they won’t take up a lot of storage space.
Baked vs. Fried
Most donuts, especially at restaurants, are fried- but not these ones. There are two reasons for that. First of all, I am terrified of frying and avoid it whenever possible.
More importantly, baking the donuts put them on the healthier side {for donuts, anyway} and also makes this recipe easier for kids to help with. It’s a bit more advanced than some of my other recipes to get kids in the kitchen, but there are a lot of steps to this that kids can easily help with!
