It’s hard to believe that Spring is already here! Spring means that it’s time to get the house back in order. However, if you have kids, this can be a tough job. You’re trying to spring clean the home and they seem to be making a mess every time you turn your back. Luckily, it is possible to get the kids involved in spring cleaning! Here are ten ways kids can help with spring cleaning.
1. Small jobs- Kids are more than capable of helping with small jobs about the house. While spring cleaning, think of small jobs your kids can do, like holding the dust pan for you, getting extra rags, or even helping to pick up toys off the floor.
2. Washing the floors- Grab a couple of old socks, put them on you and your kids, and have fun washing the floors. Floors can carry layers of dirt and this is a fun way to clean the floor, while involving your kids at the same time.
3. Cleaning the walls- Cleaning the walls and baseboards can be a nightmare for your knees! However, this is the perfect spring cleaning job for your kids. Help them get a rag wet and off to scrubbing walls they go!
4. Spring cleaning the yard- While the house may need a bit of spring cleaning, so does the yard. Kids are the perfect height to pull weeds and pick up sticks. Just make sure there’s an awesome reward waiting for them after they finish!
5. Cleaning out the basement- Every basement has a ton of stuff that isn’t necessary. Kids can help spring clean the basement by carrying unwanted junk to trash or for donation. Many hands make light work, especially when it comes to carrying items up and down stairs. {If you don’t have a basement- like us- then the garage is a great alternative.}
6. Cleaning furniture- If you were to lift up a couch cushion, who knows what you would find? Have your children help clean up the couch cushions and vacuum between the cracks. Other parts of the house can also be cleaned and vacuumed, like under the beds. Kids are the perfect height and size to reach in between these tiny spaces.
7. Dusting- There’s always something to be dusted when spring cleaning rolls around. Give your child a microfiber cloth and let them dust their little hearts out.
8. Folding clothes- Getting your kids to help with folding clothes is one way to get them involved in spring cleaning or cleaning anytime! Make the process fun though; play some music and see who can fold the most clothes before the song is over.
9. Fill a bucket with junk- Give your child a bucket and ask them to fill it with broken toys. One of the most tedious jobs a parent has is going through old and broken toys. Let your kids help with this task!
10. Cleaning out the pantry- Create 3 different piles to begin spring cleaning your pantry- keep, throw away, and give away. Each time you get a different item from the pantry, have your child put it in the appropriate pile (you’ll need to help them with this). This allows them to put their thinking caps on and helps you from having to get up and down 500 different times.

These are good ideas, although I’m thinking their help is once over light, nothing too perfect. I have a friend her house is perfect, her little son’s favorite toy is the vacuum cleaner – food for thought!
