My husband would laugh if he heard me say this because all evidence points to the contrary, but I love to clean. It’s such a mindless activity, so it is relaxing and allows my mind to wander. I have a one year old so my cleaning is done in tiny little spurts throughout the day, and I never get all of it tackled before I have to start all over again, but in those rare instances when I actually have some free time to clean, it’s glorious.
Recently one of those chances presented itself when my in-laws watched Zac for the two hours while Shane was at school. Having no kids at home could have allowed me to catch up on Pretty Little Liars or give myself a pedicure, but the second I walked in the door I knew what I had to do- bleach my sink!
Thanks to Zac’s recent discovery of blueberries and my love affair with coffee, our white sink was sporting several new stains. The only thing that gets those out is bleach, but I hate using that when the kids are home because of the fumes. So I got out a new sponge and went to work!
Once the sink was clean, my hands were a bit rough from the bleach, so I whipped up a batch of hand scrub that I’d been meaning to make for awhile. It was so easy to make and it smelled like spring. I went to put it on the sink ledge to keep it handy {no pun intended } and realized just how much stuff had accumulated around my sink. I had a thing for dish soap that I don’t ever use, half a bubble blower, a very dead plant, one lone green onion that Shane and I grew from it’s roots, and my very, very dead Valentine’s Day flowers. I needed a sink makeover!
So I went to Walmart, where I found all kinds of goodies to organize my sink. While I was there, I found some new scents of Softsoap Foaming Hand Soap since Softsoap is my favorite hand soap to use for soft hands- something I was trying to maintain after that hand scrub! I picked up all three scents, but the one that really inspired the look of my new sink was the Kitchen Citrus Bliss scent, which reminded me of the lemon scrub. Together with some stuff that I’d picked up awhile back and never got around to using, I had all the fixings to dress up the sink!
I installed a sponge and dish wand holder so that I’m no longer rooting around under the sink {which is another project for another day} for a sponge or losing the dish wand in the stack of dirty dishes. I got a pump for the dish soap so that I can keep it handy, and I placed the hand scrub right next to it. I hung an over-the-door towel bar for my dish towel to keep it off the counter and allow it to dry properly, and I added a fake flower arrangement because I obviously have a tendency to kill all the things. Of course, I topped it all off with my new Softsoap Foaming Hand Soap!
While I could definitely have used that pedicure, I’m so glad that I spent my free time making over my sink. Now every time that I do the dishes or wash my hands, I don’t get stressed about the stains or the mess. As an added bonus, I have new soaps that smell amazing and keep my hands soft! Softsoap Liquid Foaming Hand Soap is premium product at a great price and is available now so you can dress up your sink, too!
