There are so many tasks to do in a home on a day to day basis. For the most part, I’m in charge of everything, and it is just too much for one person to do. Now that Shane is almost 7, it’s beyond time for him to start pitching in.
The only problem is that sometimes, it’s easier for me to just tackle the job I want him to do than to argue with him about doing it. He doesn’t want to help {I mean, what kid wants to help with chores} and with the limited amount of time we have during the busy weeknights, sometimes I just give in and do the task myself. However, now that he’s getting older I’m trying to teach him that it’s important to help your family and pitch in- not just for them, but for the feeling of a job well done as well.
To make it a little easier to get Shane to do chores, I have started using this Chore Bingo Game Board! It’s a great compromise between us- he does the jobs I want him to do, but he gets to play a game {after all, bingo is a game, even if it involves cleaning} as well as a reward afterwards- if he earns it.
You can download this free printable Chore Bingo game board now and make up your own rules for how to play! You can let your kids pick whichever chores they want and give rewards for each completed line, you can offer “free spaces” on tasks you don’t want them to do {or write in your own chore instead!}, and you can offer a big reward {family movie night on a Tuesday? Ice cream truck for everyone?} for a blackout! This game is fully customizable to what you and your family need- including a break from arguing over who has to do the chores, yet again.
