This post is brought to you by Let’s Play, an initiative by Dr Pepper Snapple Group that provides kids and families with the tools, places and inspiration to make active play a daily priority by building and improving playgrounds and donating sports equipment to groups in need. All opinions are my own.
Well the most exciting athletic competition in the world is in full swing, and we can’t stop watching! My boys are being introduced to new sports and have been amazed by the athletic abilities of the athletes.
Watching the competition has us all inspired- and so I thought I’d put together a little backyard play time inspired by the competition as well! We had a stack of hula hoops in our garage that the kids have never quite learned how to use, so I decided to reuse them in different ways and host our own mini backyard games!
You can find even more hula hoop activities on my post today on the Let’s Play website. There are so many easy and fun things you can do with such a simple, inexpensive toy – it just takes some creativity!
The first thing we did was a bean bag toss! It was just as simple as it sounds- we all lined up and tried to throw the bean bags the farthest! We kept moving the hoops farther & farther away to test our aim from farther distances.
The second thing we did was use them to practice hopping! The boys alternated between hopping on one foot or two from hoop to hoop until they reached the end.
The third activity we did was a ring toss! We set up our T-ball stand and let the boys toss the hoops onto it. It knocked over a lot but it made us laugh every time!
Playing with your kids doesn’t have to be difficult- sometimes all you need to do is grab a hula hoop and get playing!
