If Shane had to pick just one toy to play with forever, it’d be his LeapPad2. &I’d pick the same one for him- not only does it keep him engaged for much longer than most of his toys, but it is actually educational. I don’t think he’ll ever get bored of it either {at least not until he actually outgrows it, which shouldn’t be until he’s around 9 since that’s the end of the recommended ages} because there are just so many different games, apps, & eBooks for him to use!
We recently received two new Ultra eBooks from LeapFrog to check out & Shane loves them! We received the Learn to Read Collection: Adventure Stories cartridge as well as the Learn to Read Collection: Fairy Tales cartridge.
The Learn to Read Collection: Adventure Stories cartridge allows you to go on exciting adventures in the deep blue sea and dense jungle with Tad, Leap and Lily in Jungle Journey and Ocean Odyssey.
The Learn to Read Collection: Fairy Tales cartridge includes two fairy tales- The Three Little Frogs and Leap and the Beanstalk with your favorite LeapFrog froggies taking the roles in the classic stories.
The Ultra eBooks make reading interactive by allowing you to read the story yourself, record yourself reading it or let the eBook read to you. Shane isn’t reading yet & while I sometimes read the stories to him, he prefers to let the narrator read when we use these, which is fine. Sometimes they actually have the frogs read their lines instead of {or in addition to} the narrator which Shane loves. {He’s a bit frog-obsessed in general so this couldn’t be more perfect for him!}
The books include mini-games that allow your child to learn even more about words & phonics. A few of the games were too hard for Shane, but at 3 he’s just under the recommended age for the eBook & I know that by this time next year he’ll be doing them all just great. For now, he just skips the ones that he can’t do yet {like the phonics ones or the short vowel ones} & does the ones that he can {like decorating the Frog’s house in The Three Little Frogs}.
Each eBook also contains 100 key words for early readers to help them learn to read on their own! Like most LeapPad2 games, these eBooks auto-adjust their difficulty to allow your child to keep learning as they advance. There are three levels in each story that let your child read at their own pace.
Shane has several apps on his LeapPad2 that he loves, but these are two of the apps that he uses the most. His absolute favorite eBook is The Three Little Frogs from the Fairy Tales cartridge & he has honestly asked me to read it before bed every night for two weeks! He loves how just about every page has little things to click on or otherwise interact with, like when you tilt the LeapPad2 on one page to watch a golden egg roll down a hill, or when you shake it to make the frogs’ houses fall down.
