Bears Now Available on Blu-ray! {Prize Pack Giveaway!}

I received a copy of the movie to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

I’ve wanted to see Bears since this time last year when I got to catch a sneak peek of it. I was 13 weeks pregnant with Zac and a hormonal mess, so of course the trailer had me bawling as I watched sweet moments between a mother bear and her cubs.

This last weekend, I finally got to watch it- this time no longer a hormonal mess. Yet, I was bawling while I watched sweet moments between a mother bear and her cubs! While there were definitely some moments that had me on the edge of my seat in concern, I spent most of the movie just admiring the strength and determination that Skye {mama bear} had in raising her two cubs. I think my life is difficult because I have to keep Zac from eating cords, but Skye had to keep her cubs from getting eaten!

Disneynature's BEARS

The movie is a fun family movie- it has a cute story, even cuter cubs, and a lot of fun jokes along the way. We found ourselves giggling as we watched the cubs do adorable bear things like frolic on the beach or climb on their mom, and we held our breath as an avalanche tore through the mountains and threatening animals came around.

The movie was so heartwarming, especially since I now have my own two cubs at home!

Do your kids love Despicable Me? They are a favorite around here! Shane loves the minions- in fact, a whole year ago he told me that he wanted a Minion birthday party! While we haven’t for sure settled on a theme yet, these Minion Cupcakes are just so cute, we might have to center our party around them.

Whether you’re planning a birthday party or just want a fun dessert to bring to your next barbecue, these cupcakes will have everyone impressed- and they are easy!

Minion Cupcakes How-To

Minion Cupcake Decorations

Yellow food coloring
Blue food coloring
Large marshmallows
Candy eyes
Chocolate icing
Bamboo skewers

1. Dissolve food coloring in two bowls with water.

2. Skewer marshmallows and dip them in the water- dip one marshmallow in yellow and one in blue for each double minion. {For single layered minion do not dye the blue marshmallow, use only the yellow head.}

3. Place in a cup or holder to dry (about 1 hour).

4. Once dry, soak marshmallows again until they reach your desired level of color. Place in a cup or holder to dry for at least 2 hours to ensure color is set and marshmallow is hard on outside.

5. Attach eye to marshmallow with a tiny bit of chocolate icing.

6. With the same chocolate icing and a fine tipped icing bag or squeeze bottle draw on eye glasses and smile. Set aside.

7. Assemble the blue and yellow parts of the minion onto a small toothpick and insert into cupcake.

Note: You can find the candy eyes in the baking section of your local craft store. Sometimes stores will have it in their baking section too, but typically I’ve only seen them there around holidays like Halloween when they do their special decoration displays. If you have trouble finding them in stores, you can buy Wilton Candy Eyeballs on Amazon year-round. {Affiliate link}

X-Men: Days of Future Past Axe Promo & Movie Ticket Giveaway!

Note: This post is brought to you by Global Influence. All opinions are my own.

Shane’s a bit young for superhero movies, but I have to admit I’m kind of a sucker for them. I have never been into comic books but I have never seen a movie based on comic book characters that I didn’t like. Way, way back in the day when Justin & I were dating, we watched a DVD of X-Men & I loved it. {It didn’t hurt that it had Hugh Jackman.} Then when X-Men: The Last Stand came out, we went to the theater to see it. Now, I’m excited that there’s a brand new X-Men movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past, opening next weekend!

If you can’t wait for the movie’s release, then visit a Walgreens near you for an exclusive X-Men: Days of Future Past Axe® gift pack with a FREE movie poster inside! {This would make a great gift for Dad or Grads!} Enter your zip code into the store locator below to find a Walgreens near you:

Disneynature’s Bears in Theaters Today! {Free Printable Activity Kit}

Just in time for Earth Day, Disneynature’s Bears is out today! The newest in the Disneynature series, Bears follows a bear family for a year and focuses on two sweet young cubs. The scenery is bound to be beautiful as it takes place in Alaska, and like all of the Disneynature films, you’ll get a fascinating insight into the lives of animals you’d never get to see otherwise.

Disneynature's Bears Cub

About the movie:

In an epic story of breathtaking scale, Disneynature’s new True Life Adventure “Bears” showcases a year in the life of a bear family as two impressionable young cubs are taught life’s most important lessons. Set against a majestic Alaskan backdrop teeming with life, their journey begins as winter comes to an end and the bears emerge from hibernation to face the bitter cold. The world outside is exciting—but risky—as the cubs’ playful descent down the mountain carries with it a looming threat of avalanches. As the season changes from spring to summer, the brown
bears must work hard to find food—ultimately feasting at a plentiful salmon run—while staying safe from rival male bears and predators, including an ever-present wolf. “Bears” captures the fast-moving action and suspense of life in one of the planet’s last great wildernesses—Alaska!

Back in August, I shared the trailer for Disneynature’s Bears & admitted to you all how I totally choked up watching it in front of a group of my peers. I chalked it up to pregnancy hormones and an irrational love of animals, and assumed that once I had the baby I wouldn’t be so emotionally invested in the movie. Yeah, totally not the case. In fact, it might be worse, now that I’m taking care of my baby and watching the Mama Bear take care of hers!

Disney Bears Cubs

Because I’m an emotional masochist, I plan on going to see Bears whenever we can get a night out. In the meantime, I’ll just be sitting here with a box of tissues watching the featurettes! I’ve included some below in case you’d like to join me.

New Planes: Fire & Rescue Trailer!

Last summer, Planes was a HUGE hit in our family. I’ve seen it quite a few times- starting at the red carpet premiere, then at the theater with Shane & Justin, and finally when we received it on Blu-ray {&I’ve seen it several times since}. Shane & I are both really excited to see what’s next for Dusty Crophopper this Summer in Planes: Fire & Rescue!

Planes Fire and Rescue

About the movie:

“Planes: Fire & Rescue” is a new comedy-adventure about second chances, featuring a dynamic crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfire. When world famous air racer Dusty (voice of Dane Cook) learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. Dusty joins forces with veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his courageous team, including spirited super scooper Dipper (voice of Julie Bowen), heavy-lift helicopter Windlifter, ex-military transport Cabbie and a lively bunch of brave all-terrain vehicles known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the fearless team battles a massive wildfire and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero. Directed by Bobs Gannaway (“Secret of the Wings”), “Planes: Fire & Rescue” hits theaters in 3D on July 18, 2014.
