We had a cold snap this last weekend that really had it feeling like Christmas! It even snowed in one part of the valley, which is pretty much unheard of for November in Vegas. We took full advantage and watched the movie Arthur Christmas!
Arthur Christmas is about Santa’s son Arthur who is obsessed with Christmas. His job is to reply to the children who write letters to Santa, and he takes his job very seriously.
When he discovers that one of the children he replied to was skipped on Christmas Eve, he swears that he’ll do anything it takes to get her gift to her before morning! Joined by an unlikely team {his Grandfather, GrandSanta, as well as a wrapping elf and an aging reindeer} he pushes through all of the set backs thrown his way, including losing a reindeer somewhere along the way.. and then another one… and another one… and being mistaken for an alien & being shot at with missiles!
I really liked this movie & so did Shane. Santa is a big deal around here, and so a whole movie about not just Santa but his whole family was perfect! This movie takes place in the present {a child even writes Santa to ask why his home isn’t visible on Google Earth} and so a major aspect of the movie was that everything was very high-tech, with the classic sleigh being referred to as a “relic” more than once. The way the movie plays out, it reminds us that technology isn’t necessarily bad, but sometimes nothing beats tradition.
To help you really get into the Christmas spirit, you can make these yummy Chocolate Candy Cane Cupcakes to enjoy with the movie! The holiday season is busy enough, so these are very, very simple to make. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 1 Box of Chocolate Cake Mix- any variety as long as it’s chocolate
- Ingredients needed according to box {oil, eggs, etc.}
- 1 tsp Mint Extract
- Chocolate Frosting
- 10 oz. bag of Peppermint Hard Candies
Directions
- Prepare cake mix according to directions, and while mixing, add in the 1 tsp of Mint Extract.
- Bake as directed.
- While cupcakes are in the oven, crush about half of the bag of mints.*
- When cupcakes are completely cool, cover in chocolate frosting. Be sure to get the edges!
- Pour crushed mints into a shallow bowl and dip the cupcake into the bowl.
- Dip as needed to coat completely.
- Add an in-tact peppermint into the center of each cupcake and push down about halfway.
Notes
*You can crush the Peppermints in any number of ways- I used my Tupperware Quick Chef Pro but you could just put them into a Ziploc bag & hit them with a rolling pin. Whatever works for you!
