One of the hardest things about Halloween? You have to wait all day for the main event!
As a kid I was always staring at the clock all day, waiting for it to be time to go trick or treating. And as an adult? I still do that!

I still can’t make trick or treating at noon a thing, but now that I’m the grown up, I have a little bit more say into how we spend our Halloween. Of course, sometimes the kids have school- but they’re always home for breakfast! So starting the day with a fun and spooky {in a cute way!} breakfast is the perfect solution.
These adorable cake mix donuts are so much fun and I promise, they’re super easy. You probably already have almost everything you need- just grab some cute sprinkles and a box of cake mix and you’ll be able to start your Halloween with a treat!
Why are these donuts made out of cake mix?
Cake mix lends itself SO well to donuts- not only does it make the donuts nice and rich, but it saves a lot of time since you don’t have to measure out quite as many ingredients.
You do still need to add eggs, butter and milk to take these from cake to donut, but I promise you it’s nice and simple.

Do you have to use chocolate cake mix for cake mix donuts?
You can use any flavor of cake you’d prefer to make these cake mix donuts! I felt like the chocolate cake mix gave off the best Halloween vibes but you can use whatever you and your family likes- and when it’s not October, you can use whatever flavor you like to make this recipe year-round!
Is it better to bake donuts? Are donuts healthier when they’re baked?
These donuts are baked instead of deep fried, so they do have a slight advantage.
But…. they’re cake mix, with added butter, with melted frosting and sprinkles on top. So these particular donuts are not exactly bringing you any added health benefits. Sorry guys! But it’s a special occasion, so it’s a great time to enjoy a little extra sweetness.

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease donut pans with nonstick cooking spray.

When the donuts are cool, remove the lid from the frosting jar and heat for 30 seconds to 1 minute in the microwave, until the frosting is slightly runny.
