We love Nintendo games in our family, and we have a lot of them. Most of our titles have to do with classic video game characters, like Mario or Sonic. But Nintendo recently offered us the chance to check out a game that combines our love of Nintendo with another thing we love: Marvel!
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is a game for Nintendo Switch that lets you play as some of your favorite Marvel heroes, like Iron Man or Black Widow. Each character has their own unique skills and challenges, and they all form the ultimate alliance to fight Thanos!
The whole family recently took turns trying out the game, and here’s what everyone had to say about it:
Zac’s Thoughts {6 Years Old}
Zac’s Thoughts: Zac thought it was fun, though he did get frustrated a few times. He didn’t know all of the heroes- he has seen some Marvel movies but not all of them- but loved seeing some of his favorites on there like Captain America and Iron Man.
My thoughts on gameplay for a six year old: The main difficulty Zac had was getting stuck once in awhile. With a little bit of assistance from big brother, he was able to move on and keep playing.
Zac can read but we appreciated the voice-over that goes along with the written dialogue- as a fluent but new reader, Zac can’t always keep up with games that are text-only and can get frustrated.
As far as content being age-appropriate, every family will need to make their own decisions but I feel comfortable with everything in this game.
Shane’s Thoughts {10 Years Old}
Shane’s Thoughts: Shane had a little trouble with the aim sometimes, but overall really enjoyed the game. He liked that the game was more than just spamming the same button over and over, and that it let you switch between different heroes to use each one’s unique abilities. He also loved that so many Marvel characters were all combined into one nice story.
My thoughts on gameplay for a ten year old: Shane was the one who got the most into this game, which makes sense as he’s prime Marvel age. {Don’t get me wrong though, we’re all big Marvel fans!}
He loved trying out several different characters to see how they operated, and I love that it made him think critically to find the best strategies. Overall, this game held his attention for quite some time and I can definitely see it being a favorite for this age range.
Justin’s Thoughts {Dad}
Justin didn’t play it as much as the rest of us, because the kids have pretty much been playing it since we got it. He did really appreciate that there was voice-over to go with the text, since he often gets stuck reading games out loud to Zac. Zac’s reading has improved this year in kindergarten, but it’s nice that there is voice as well for those who are still working on their skills.
My Thoughts {Mom}
I thought the game had amazing graphics, lots of fun details, and a HUGE storyline! This game would definitely keep you interested for a long time- without being too difficult to be fun. I loved that some of my favorite heroes were included, like Captain America and Spider-Man.
