This post is brought to you by Let’s Play, an initiative by Dr Pepper Snapple Group that provides kids and families with the tools, places and inspiration to make active play a daily priority by building and improving playgrounds and donating sports equipment to groups in need. All opinions are my own.
It is officially fall around here! The trees haven’t quite changed color yet but since we’ve been stuck inside most of the last few months due to the heat, we’ve been taking full advantage of the cooler weather. We’ve been partaking in some of our favorite fall traditions on the weekends, like hay rides and apple picking, but even on normal weeknights we’ve been spending a lot of time outside.
Since our weekends are full of adventures, our weekday park trips and evenings in the backyard can sometimes seem pretty boring in comparison. We’ve been trying to find ways to make them more exciting- I’ve been getting some great ideas from the Let’s Play website and I also made a fun Nature Scavenger Hunt for the boys!
This Nature Scavenger Hunt is a lot of fun and since it has pictures for each item, it’s been easy for Zac to use too with no reading required. The scavenger hunt has encouraged my boys to notice small details- normally they would never notice a spiderweb, but now they’re out looking for one! {Of course, they are being careful to watch out for spiders!}
If you have kids who need a little encouragement to get outside, this free printable Nature Scavenger Hunt might be the boost they need. {Just click here to download.} Whether they like collecting or discovering, they can turn any area of nature into a game. We even play it in our backyard! We may not be able to find mushrooms or acorns in our backyard, but we try to see how many things we can find and the boys love crossing things off the list.
If you’re looking for more great ideas for getting your kids to play outside, be sure to check out the Let’s Play website! There you’ll find ways to get active and get play ideas for all ages and all seasons, including the best one of all- fall!
