We don’t watch football at our house, but I still love football season for one big reason- the food! Most of my favorite foods also happen to be great football & tailgating foods, so a season packed with chicken wings, nachos, and pizza works for me.
Now, I would love to just sit back and order delivery every Sunday, but my body disagrees. Those are all what we call “sometimes foods” around here- okay in moderation, but eat them too often and you’ll end up with a belly ache. We all feel better when we eat better ingredients- and preferably even use our own kitchen.
One of the most versatile things in my fridge is a bottle of OJ! I love drinking orange juice- for breakfast, for a snack, or even late at night sometimes- but did you know you can cook with it, too? Even better- you can make football food with it! Below is a recipe from the Florida Department of Citrus that I made for my family the other day:
Florida Orange Marinade Chicken Kabobs
Ingredients:
¼ cup 100% Florida Orange Juice
1 tbsp lime juice
1 tbsp jerk seasoning
1 tsp ginger, minced
Directions: Combine all ingredients in bowl, mix thoroughly. Pour marinade over chicken skewers, cover and refrigerate at least three hours or preferably overnight.
It was such an easy recipe to make and would be perfect for a football party. It’s a great family meal too- not only is it a great way to get some veggies in but the orange juice itself has a lot of health benefits. One 8-ounce glass of 100% Florida Orange Juice is an excellent source of vitamin C {more than 100% of the daily value!}, counts as one cup of fruit, is a good source of folate, thiamin, and potassium, and is free of fat, sodium, cholesterol, and added sugar. It’s a great way to add some zing to a recipe, too!
If you’re grilling, tailgating, or hosting a football party this season, don’t forget the orange juice!
