4 Tips for Buying Baby and Kid Clothes on a Budget

With a young baby at home, we go through clothes like you wouldn’t believe. I had forgotten how quickly things get outgrown at this age- Shane was the same way, but it’s been over four years. I’ve gotten spoiled since Shane just outgrew his 4T clothing after wearing it for over a year. Now, however, it feels like I’m packing clothes away even faster than I’m washing them!

With how fast babies and young children outgrow clothes, it’s important to find ways to save some money while keeping {good} clothes on their backs. Over the last five years I’ve picked up a few tips here & there that have helped us save on clothing!

Buying Baby Clothes on a Budget

1. Shop second-hand. Babies outgrow their clothes around every 3 months- sometimes sooner. That means that most baby clothing items only get worn a handful of times before they are too small, so assuming that they aren’t covered in food, they are typically still in great condition! While we don’t usually buy second-hand past 18M {once they get into the “T” sizes- 2T, 3T, etc.- the clothes get worn for much longer and therefore are often worn out}, we would make exceptions for “special occasion” clothing that may have only been worn a couple of times- Halloween costumes, dress up pieces, tuxedos, suits, etc.

2. Shop the sales. If you have a favorite clothing brand {or two}, learn their sales schedules. One store that we particularly love has a very predictable schedule so we are able to get some pretty high priced clothing for less just by picking the right time to shop.

3. Set up a Swap. Whether you do it in person with your community or you join an online swapping site, you may be able to score new-to-you kids clothing without even spending any money! There are several websites out there that exist for just this purpose!

4. Save money on play essentials. Kids are dirty. They just are. Jumping in mud puddles, smearing ice cream all over the place, and falling down regularly are all parts of being a kid. Don’t send your kids out to play in expensive jeans- stock up on some well-priced play essentials that are cute but casual enough to play in.

Garanimals makes a great line of clothing that is very affordable, and perfect for play! They get how fast kids grow up {as proven in the adorable video above} and they make clothing that won’t break your budget, even when you have to buy a bigger size every few months! Garanimals clothing is available in sizes newborn to 5T and you can find it exclusively at Walmart or Walmart.com!

5 Tips for Healthy, Hydrated Skin

Sponsored post by Lunchbox, all opinions are 100% my own.

I have always had skin issues. Living in the desert, I fight dry skin constantly. I also have eczema, so it’s even more important that I keep my skin hydrated and healthy. Over the years I’ve picked up a few tips and tricks for making sure my skin is healthy. Below are my top 5 tips to deeply nourish dry skin.

5 Tips for Healthy Skin

1. Drink enough water. If you’re dehydrated, your skin is more likely to be dehydrated as well.

2. Eat a healthy diet. Make sure you’re getting enough vitamins and healthy fats.

3. Use warm {not hot} water in the shower. Hot water removes natural oils from your skin, drying you out faster.

4. Pat your skin dry. Don’t rub your skin dry with a towel- it removes too much moisture and can cause flaking.

5. Moisturize. Use a great moisturizer as soon as you get out of the shower, like Vaseline® Intensive Care™ moisturizing lotion.

Getting truly healthy skin starts with deep healing moisture. It’s not something you get by masking problems or through quick fixes. That’s why the healing power of Vaseline® Intensive Care™ moisturizing lotion is designed to go beyond basic moisturizing to help heal dry skin, leaving it looking healthy and radiant.

Plus, if you visit Walgreens on August 23rd from 10am-5pm you can pick up an exclusive in-store $1 off coupon and get expert advice from a Beauty Advisor. Just make sure to get there early- they only have a limited number of coupons at each store.

Walgreens always has Vaseline® Intensive Care™ at an everyday value of $7.49 per bottle, but by combining these great deals on 8/23, you can get two bottles for just $8.23! Here’s how it works:

During August, there’s a buy 2, get 2,000 Balance Reward points special.

Who doesn’t love ice cream? I am not particularly picky when it comes to ice cream, but I do have some favorites. Ben & Jerry’s is one of those favorites because their flavors always include some yummy add-ins! I always feel like I’m cheating because I get to have ice cream and brownies, cookies, or candy.

Ben & Jerry's Truffle Trifecta

I just discovered a new Ben & Jerry’s flavor at my local Walgreens- Truffle Trifecta! It’s chocolate ice cream with marshmallow, fudge, and caramel truffles. The boys and I all loved it- it didn’t last long around here!

Get Party Supplies for Just $1 from Dollar Tree!

This post is brought to you by DollarTree.com. All opinions are my own.

I have no idea how it happened, but next week, Shane is turning five. For the last month, we’ve been planning his birthday dinner- even though the guest list is just my parents, Justin’s parents, and my brother. Still, Shane is all about parties right now and wants it to be perfect. At least, that’s what I tell myself when he changes the theme of the party for the third time- that day.

The problem with parties is that they can quickly get expensive. We have a small guest list, but we still have to provide dishes, food, decorations, favors, and of course, cake. The more people you have at your party, the more expensive it gets, and parties quickly end up in the hundreds of dollars. However, I just found out that Dollar Tree has a huge selection of party supplies- both in stores and online!

$1 Party Supplies from Dollar Tree!

One of the two themes that Shane is going between is a Blue’s Clues birthday party. Just a quick glance at the Dollar Tree website brought up several things that would be a great fit for the theme, and everything I found {all in the picture above} is just $1.00. In fact, some of the items, like the balloons and plates, are part of multi-packs that total $1.00- you get 15 balloons or 20 plates for $1.00 each, for example.

So, what’s the catch? Well, if you’re shopping online, there are minimum purchase requirements- so you can’t just buy one pack of paper plates. That said, if you’re looking to buy in bulk, you really can’t beat this deal. Not everything requires a minimum purchase, either- some items you can buy individually, and sometimes the requirements are very small. {If you really just want one of something, you can always head to your local Dollar Tree store!}

Whether you’re hosting a Blue’s Clues party or a Barbie party, they have plenty of supplies for any theme and every budget! Be sure to check out DollarTree.com the next time you’re planning a party.

When was the last time you threw a party?

50 Free Kids eBooks to Jumpstart Your Child’s Learning This School Year!

This post uses affiliate links, which allows you to download these free kids ebooks while helping our site at the same time. Win-win!

Right at the end of the school year, Shane really started getting the hang of reading. He could blend almost anything, was nailing some sight words, and was just overall having it “click”. We didn’t want him to lose his momentum over the summer, so of course we ordered a few kids book for him to read. While we did read them quite a bit, we’ve been having a lot of fun this summer so we haven’t really been on top of it like I wanted to be.

With just three weeks to go before school starts, it’s crunch time. We’re doing a lot of reading {but having fun while doing it!} but the same old books get boring. Buying too many new books not only costs money but takes up a ton of space, so I love getting ebooks- especially free ones! If you’re in the market for some kids ebooks, below are 50 FREE kids ebooks available right now on Amazon! Just click on any book below to be taken to the page to download it.
