Donkey Kong Bananza launched over the summer and quickly became a new favorite- not just of mine, but of many Nintendo fans! It’s an open-world Donkey Kong game with a lot of fun places to explore- you can read my full review here!

Well that’s not all the big ape had in store- Donkey Kong Bananza has a new DLC {Downloadable Content- in other words, additional content for an additional price} that you can pick up now! Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush adds not only a new area to the game, but a new game mode as well!

What is Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush?
This DLC, or expansion pack, for the base game contains two main parts: DK Island, which is a new area with landmarks from past games, and Emerald Rush, a new game mode where you collect emerald ore under time limits, which gives you perks and upgrades.
In Emerald Rush, you begin on DK Island and then make your way through layers from the main game, smashing everything and collecting emeralds. You can get fun new items like costumes- always a fun thing to collect! There are lots of Easter eggs to find too!

What I Loved
There’s already SO much to do in Donkey Kong: Bananza, but this added even more. It does have an additional price, but the amount of content it adds almost feels like a whole other game- without the price tag.
I admit I don’t have a lot of prior DK knowledge {unless Diddy Kong Racing on N64 counts!} so I’m sure I didn’t catch nearly as many Easter Eggs- so for me those weren’t as big of a deal. BUT I have seen many people talking about there being lots of them and I just love when a franchise does that!
I also love the Emerald Rush game play feature- allowing you to explore the game you’ve been playing but with a different object, allowing it to continue to feel fresh. It reminds me of when you unlock Balloon World in Super Mario Odyssey- not in the style of game itself, but in the “bonus minigame” aspect.

If you’ve been loving Donkey Kong Bananza and are ready for additional content, definitely check out the DLC available now in the Nintendo Store!
