Every weekend, we have a Family Game Night. That can mean board games, card games, or my personal favorite- Mario Party! It’s so much more than a video game- it’s a multi-layered family game that’s part strategy, part luck, and all fun!
We’ve played older versions of Mario Party MANY times over now, so when I heard about Super Mario Party Jamboree for Nintendo Switch, I couldn’t wait to dive in with my family – and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!
About the game:
Get ready for the biggest party yet in Super Mario Party Jamboree for Nintendo Switch. From running through merry-go-rounds to motion-control minigolf, this jamboree is jam-packed with over 110 minigames – the most of any Mario Party game to date!
With seven boards in all, you can go with the flow in Goomba Lagoon, search for stars in Rainbow Galleria, revisit the classics of Western Land and Mario’s Rainbow Castle from past titles, and more.
Race across the party board in Koopathlon, a series-first 20-player online competition to see who can rack up the highest scores in minigames like the fast-paced Lane Change. The higher your score in each round, the faster you’ll get to the goal. Koopathlon is just one of a slew of additional modes – there’s something for every kind of Mario Party player to enjoy!
My Thoughts
As a long-time Mario Party fan, this game had the perfect mix of nostalgia and newness for me. It reminded me of the older editions of the series with its colorful boards and competitive gameplay, but it also brought its own fresh take. The sheer variety of over 110 minigames meant we were never bored- we have yet to play the same minigame twice- and each round felt totally new.
One standout feature for me was the minigames that you play when an ally is up for grabs. These minigames were tailored to the specific ally you could get- like a haunted mansion quest to obtain Luigi- and felt like a game-within-a-game.
The maps were another highlight as they were super fun and well-designed. My favorite was the mall map, which reminded me of my teen days hanging out at the mall and managed to be both chaotic and strategic at the same time. It became an instant family favorite!
This game is a true crowd-pleaser. My entire family had such a great time playing and this game had something for everyone. Whether it was racing around the board to get more stars or competing in motion-control challenges, the excitement was nonstop on every turn. We know it’ll be a go-to for family game nights for years to come!
