I received a copy of this game to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.
Pokémon has been a big part of my life since I was just 8 years old, and since having my own family my tie to Pokémon has only grown. We’ve all played Pokémon Go basically daily since it came out, and my kids have both become huge fans of the other Pokémon games, Pokémon shows and movies, and even Pokémon books and comics! So whenever there’s a new Pokémon game, we pick it up on day one and jump right in.
We had really high hopes for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the newest Pokémon game to come out on Nintendo Switch. We’d seen the preview images and read about it a bit, but we could tell it was different from the usual Pokémon games so we were hoping it would be as good as we thought it looked. And luckily, it is!

About the game:
Get ready for a new kind of grand, Pokémon adventure in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a brand-new game from Game Freak that blends action and exploration with the RPG roots of the Pokémon series. Embark on survey missions in the ancient Hisui region. Explore natural expanses to catch wild Pokémon by learning their behavior, sneaking up, and throwing a well-aimed Poké Ball. You can also toss the Poké Ball containing your ally Pokémon near a wild Pokémon to seamlessly enter battle.
Your adventure takes place in the expansive natural majesty of the Hisui region, where you are tasked with studying Pokémon to complete the region’s first Pokédex. Mount Coronet rises from the center, surrounded on all sides by areas with distinct environments. In this era—long before the events of the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl games—you can find newly discovered Pokémon like Wyrdeer, an evolution of Stantler, and new regional forms like Hisuian Growlithe, Hisuian Zorua, and Hisuian Zoroark! Along the way, uncover the mystery surrounding the Mythical Pokémon known as Arceus.
We recently took turns trying out the game, and here’s what everyone had to say about it:

Zac’s Thoughts {8 years old}
Zac really likes how it’s open world, and that there are a lot of adventures to take. He thinks the starter choices are really cool, and he picked Oshawott. He likes that there are new Pokémon that look cool, and that you can see a shiny in the overworld and not just when you battle it, which made shinies easy to find. His favorite thing to do in the game is to explore and catch new Pokémon to get XP.
Shane’s Thoughts {12 years old}
Shane liked the game a lot and thinks it might be his favorite Pokémon game of all time- which says a lot since he’s played almost all of them. He said that it’s a new type of Pokémon game, with a lot of stuff to do like completing your Pokedex, catching legendaries and completing all the research tasks. It’s semi-open world so it gives you objectives but you don’t have to follow them right away. His favorite Pokémon of all time {Cyndaquil} is a starter choice so that’s awesome, and he likes that shiny hunting is easier. He also thinks the new Hisuian Pokémon look cool.

My Thoughts {Mom}
This game is absolutely beautiful and is such a fun one to play. I love open world games so much and having one where I can also fill my Pokedex is absolutely perfect. And seeing different versions of some of my favorite Pokémon is so cool!
I love that there’s SO much to do in the game, which means I’ll be able to play it for a long time without running out of things to do. And best of all, I love that it’s something my boys and I can all enjoy, and we can spend time together talking about it and helping each other with it.
This is a great game for anyone who is a Pokémon fan!
