Last week, the boys and I were invited to head to Disneyland to check out the Summer of Heroes! This summer, Disneyland and California Adventure have so many fun ways to celebrate your favorite heroes- and to celebrate the hero in you! They have everything from new rides to delicious treats- and of course, some very special heroes to meet!
The biggest must-do right now is the newest ride, Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: BREAKOUT! at California Adventure! This new thrill ride is a Guardians of the Galaxy themed ride where you help Rocket free the rest of the Guardians from The Collector. On the ride, you fall and then go back up, fall and go back up, and- you get the point. It is really such a thrill- you never know which direction you’re going to go or for how long, and we even caught some air while we were dropping! Shane and I both rode it and we were both a little nervous beforehand. After we got off the ride, we both wanted to do it again & again!
It wouldn’t be the Summer of Heroes without some heroes! Over in Hollywood Land, you’ll find heroes like Spider-Man, Captain America, and Black Widow. The boys took some photos with Spider-Man and were so excited to see Black Widow riding up the street on her way to go help Iron Man! At one point in the afternoon, Zac dropped a bubble wand into a grate in the sidewalk- and he immediately said we should find Spider-Man to help get it back!
Of course, what would a special celebration be without delicious food? There is special Summer of Heroes food to be had, like Groot Bread and the Spider Bite Donut. I didn’t know if the boys would like the donut because it has cinnamon candy in the frosting, but they both loved it {and I did too}! The Groot Bread was pretty much the cutest thing ever- people kept stopping us on the street to see where we got it! For the record, you can find it at the Fairfax Market Place, and the donuts are at Schmoozies {both in Hollywood Land}.
Right near the new Mission: BREAKOUT! ride, you can sometimes spot the Guardians of the Galaxy having an Awesome Dance-Off! Stick around to see if they accomplish their mission and afterwards, you may even spot Groot!
Another fun show to catch is the Avengers Training Initiative. There, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and a few of their fellow agents train kids to fight like The Avengers! You can sign your kids up to participate or just watch, but either way you may be in for some surprises! Shane thought the Training Initiative was so cool and said that was one of his favorite parts of our day. While he was too shy to join in, he was just in awe of the amazing skills the agents had!
If your kids aren’t as into superheroes, there’s still new fun to be had this summer! Cruz Ramirez, from the newest Pixar movie Cars 3, is making appearances in Cars Land! She was busy training McQueen while we were in that part of the park but the boys are so excited to meet her next time!
For the really young kids {like Zac}, there’s also the new Disney Jr. Dance Party! We loved the Disney Junior Live on Stage show and were really sad when we learned they were changing it, but now that we’ve seen the new show I’m so glad they made the change! This show is so much more fun and even interactive, and we all left with a big smile on our faces! Some of the most loved characters from Disney Junior make a special appearance and it’s just one big party!
Over on the Disneyland side of the park, you’ll want to stay late to catch the Main Street Electrical Parade! This parade has been on hiatus from Disneyland for 20 years and is only back at Disneyland until August 20th so make sure you catch it while you can! This parade made it’s debut in 1972 so it has a lot of the classic characters, like Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and more. With over half a million twinkling lights, this is an amazing way to end your night!
Be sure to head to Disneyland and California Adventure this summer while you can still #HeroUp! If you’re a Las Vegas local it’s just a four hour drive- and I promise you, their weather is much cooler than ours! Even if you aren’t as close as Vegas, this is still the perfect time to head to the Happiest Place on Earth!
