Back in my college days, I went to my fair share of tailgates. We wore our school colors, some of my friends painted their faces and we all cheered on our team! I’ve been trying to instill some of that team spirit into my boys and the newest {and yummiest} way I’ve been doing that is with cupcakes!
Cupcakes are easy to customize, and in the past I’ve made some that were red and some that were silver {our school’s colors}. However, as soon as I saw Wilton’s Color Swirl Coupler I knew it was exactly what I needed for the perfect Team Spirit Cupcakes! The Wilton Color Swirl Coupler allows you to mix two or even three colors of frosting together- and use them all at once! There are so many things you could do with it, like use themed colors for an event or birthday party, but I tried it out by using our team colors.
When I first saw what the Color Swirl Coupler could do, I thought it would be really hard to use. It was actually so easy I couldn’t even believe it! The coupler comes with three interlocking pieces, and you start by fitting each one into a pastry bag. Then you connect them together, add the desired Wilton tip of your choice, and use the included ring to hold everything together. Then just fill the pastry bags and pipe! You can use two colors like I did or use three for even more options. For a better breakdown of how to use the coupler, be sure to watch the video below:
Team Spirit Cupcakes
Ingredients:
Cupcakes {Use your favorite recipe or use one of these for white cupcakes, chocolate cupcakes, or vanilla cupcakes.}
White frosting {Use your favorite recipe or brand or make Wilton’s amazing Buttercream Frosting.}
Wilton Color Right Performance Color System
Wilton Color Mist Food Color Spray
Optional Football Icing Decorations
Directions:
1. Bake your cupcakes according to the recipe and allow to completely cool.
2. Make your frosting and use the Wilton Color Right Performance Color System to achieve your desired colors. Use a separate bowl for each color so they don’t mix until you’re ready! {For these cupcakes, I used 40 drops of red and 4 drops of black for the grey}.
3. Using the Color Swirl Coupler, pipe the frosting onto the cupcakes in a circular motion, starting from the outside and working your way in.
4. Add Wilton Color Mist Food Color Spray in color of choice- I used silver for a little extra shine!
5. Add decorations, candles, etc. {Tip: If you’ll be serving these outside, I recommend refrigerating them for a little while first to ensure the frosting holds up to the heat.}
The Wilton Color Right Performance Color System was another huge help with this recipe. Using the system allowed me to get the perfect shades for our school colors! It comes with 8 bottles of coloring and a little guide that tells you how to get some common shades that you may want to use. It’s so nice because it allows you to easily recreate the same colors again and again- so I could make these cupcakes all season long and each time they’d look just like this!
