Recently, Shane learned how to play football in his P.E. class at school. We don’t have a football team here, so until he learned how to play he never really cared about it, but now he is starting to pay more attention. He has always loved watching the Super Bowl and wanted me to pull out some of our football decorations that we used when we watched the big game this year, so we turned it into a little at-home tailgate!
Tailgating- or having a full-blown game watching party, for that matter- doesn’t have to be a big ordeal. Below are five ways that you can save both time and money while having a fun, football themed night!
1. Save on decorations by making them versatile. If you buy a big team banner for every game or sport you watch, that’s going to add up quickly. The same goes for logos on things like napkins, paper plates, and cups. Instead, use signs that you can change up- like chalk boards that you can use for any sport or even any occassion, and instead of buying tableware with logos, stick to your team colors. Not only will the items be cheaper since they don’t contain the logo, but you can reuse any extras for birthday parties, BBQs, or whatever!
2. If you really want to add some unique decorations but don’t want to break the bank, consider purchasing some printables on Etsy or finding free ones on Pinterest. We made these little Foam Finger substitutes by printing out a photo of a finger online and taping them to some {not sharp} kabob sticks we had!
3. Offer activities to keep the kids occupied- but keep it simple. Younger kids might get bored watching the same game for hours, especially with all the commercials, so have other options for them to get some energy out. If the weather is nice enough, just take a football out into the backyard! If you have some hula hoops you can set those up for target practice, or try any variety of game you- or your kids- can imagine using footballs. If the weather isn’t cooperating, Football Bingo {with these printable bingo cards} or cookie decorating would be fun!
4. Have lots of snacks! I stand by my statement that the best part about a football game is the food. Be sure to have lots of snacks on hand, and a nice variety to please everyone- sweet, salty, and even savory! {Might I recommend these Team Spirit Cupcakes for dessert?}
5. Speaking of food, it’s not a tailgate without pizza! Personally, I love personal pizzas, like the Red Baron Deep Dish Singles for tailgating- it’s a lot easier to serve up. We also love the Red Baron Minis, especially for the kids! They are perfect for tailgates because they’re delicious and also because you can just cook them all really quickly by putting them on the grill. They taste so good that way!
Whether you’re rooting for the local college or a major team- or just hanging out for the food- Red Baron pizza is a must-have for game day! Be sure to check out the big boxes of Red Baron Minis and Red Baron Deep Dish Singles available at your local Sam’s Club!
