A few weeks ago while I was in LA, I had the chance to do something I’ve always, always wanted to do- visit the set of a TV show! It was even more special because I got to check out the set of a show I actually love and watch- The Catch!
The Catch is a new show from Shondaland, the people who brought you Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder. It starts Mireille Enos who plays investigator Alice Vaughan and Peter Krause, who plays a con artist who pulled one over on Alice- but fell in love with her in the process. It takes place in the present day but has a really strong 60’s vibe going on, which makes it even more fun to watch. The show just premiered last month so there’s still time to get caught up and watch!
When we went to the set of The Catch, we had the chance to check out the wardrobe department, too! There are some very fancy characters on the show who go to very fancy events, so they have amazing clothes in this show. It was amazing getting to check them out in person- and we even got to learn a lot about being a Costume Designer from Peggy Schnitzer! It sounds like an absolutely fascinating job.

While we were there, we also got a surprise visit from Rose Rollins, who plays Alice’s business partner and best friend Valerie Anderson. She was so sweet and so fun to talk to!
Here are ten fun facts we learned from our visit to the set and interviews with Peggy Schnitzer and Rose Rollins:
1. The wardrobe department keeps a book full of photos of each outfit that’s worn. They keep this so that if there’s ever a scene they have to go back to- or another scene where the character in wearing the same outfit- they need to be able to look back and see exactly what the character looked like, down to the jewelry, hair, and makeup!
2. Peggy and her team {including tailor Carlos Zapeda, costume supervisor Leo Castro, and assistant costumer designer Anita Cabada} bring the characters to life by dressing them in clothes that they buy- and also clothing they make! In fact, Peggy designed Alice’s gorgeous wedding dress and made it as well with help from Carlos.
3. Peter Krause wears mostly suits with dark or white shirts- and those shirts were made just for him. They even have his initials in them!

4. According to Peggy, most TV shows don’t let you use a lot of black clothing. However, because a lot of the set is white or made of glass, it’s a lot easier to see people when they wear dark colors so she has more options.
5. The turn around time for choosing and acquiring outfits is usually pretty short. When there are about five or six days left of filming in one episode, the wardrobe department starts finding out what types of clothing will be needed for the next episode. Then they have to buy or design the clothes, sew them if they are creating them, and get them fitted to the actors so that they fit properly. They only have a few days to do all of this.
6. Some of the clothing that they wear on the show {including accessories} are rented. Anything purchased can be boxed up and stored in case they need it for a future episode.
7. The Maria Kreyn painting that is prominently featured in the show was actually painted by Maria Kreyn!
8. It’s almost like two separate shows are being filmed at the same time- Alice’s office and coworkers film most of their scenes together and the con artists film most of their scenes together, and they very seldom overlap. According to Rose, that makes it a little chaotic for the hair and makeup people since they have double the amount of people to take care of!
9. The details on set are amazing- after all, the house needs to look lived in! There is a stack of mail by the door and there’s even a sponge in the sink!
10. Peggy said that working on “The Catch” is a designer’s dream, “a designer’s dream, because it’s a great cast, great bodies, great visuals and the story is fantastic.”
The Catch airs Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC! There’s actually a new episode TONIGHT so be sure to set your DVR!

About tonight’s episode:
