When I was in high school, I took theater classes. I had a huge love of acting {and entertaining in general} and dreamt of one day walking down the red carpet to the premiere of a movie I’d starred in. I ditched the acting dream awhile back in favor of motherhood, but last week I was able to do something I never thought I’d do- walk the red {well, white} carpet at the premiere of a REAL movie with huge stars!
Last Monday night, I went to The El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood to catch the premiere of Disney’s newest movie, Frankenweenie! {I’ll be sharing my thoughts on this great movie next week but for now suffice it to say that you’ll need to bring some tissues.} When I arrived, it took awhile to hit me- there were people lined up along the sidewalk and even on the buildings across the way trying to catch a glimpse of the stars!
When we started to walk down the carpet, we started hearing “Winona! Winona!” & sure enough, Winona Ryder {who just happens to star in one of my favorite movies ever- Girl, Interrupted} was standing just feet from us!
They had us walk to the right of the actual stars so all I could photograph was the back of her head, but thanks to this paparazzi shot I can be seen totally photo-bombing Winona while taking the photo above!
We were hurried along so that the stars could get the attention they deserve for working so hard on the film, but the celebrity sightings didn’t end there! While we waited for the show to start, we found a few random celebrities {Kendra of The Girls Next Door fame and some assorted Disney channel stars} and then the main stars all went to sit down to watch the movie! I was sitting just a couple of feet away from Martin Landau, Martin Short, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Atticus Shaffer, Charlie Tahan, Robert Capron, Tom Kenny, the composer Danny Elfman, and the biggest star of the night- Tim Burton.
Once they were seated, the movie began! I can’t tell you any more about the movie for now, but it was a brilliant 87 minutes.
After the movie, we walked over to the after party, where they had a “weenie” bar set up {corn dogs, hot dogs, pigs in a blanket, etc.} along with some delicious treats, like these cake balls from Lil Rae Cakes!
Since it’s a kid’s movie & lots of stars brought their children to the premiere, I thought it was awesome that they had some fun displays for them to check out! They had a stop motion animation demonstration booth {and a demo on how your mind plays tricks on you while watching it!} and a couple of fun ways to play with electricity!
We stood in line to get a photo with Tim Burton, even though I was totally too star struck to begin to formulate a coherent thought to share with him. Unfortunately {well, fortunately for my nerves I suppose} his handler had him take a break when it was our turn so we missed out- but at least I was really creepy & shot this photo of him hugging someone who is a total stranger to me!
It had been a long day & I was really shy so after taking in what it felt like to be a real Hollywood star, I headed back to my room. It was so much to take in- I’d had a once in a lifetime experience that I’d dreamed about for years. That’s Disney magic for you!
Be sure to follow Frankenweenie on Facebook for updates & check it out in theaters starting October 5th!
Note: Disney paid for my travel & accommodations to cover this event. No other compensation was received. All experiences are authentic & all opinions are my own.
