Spring has officially sprung- and around here in Las Vegas, that basically means it’s already summer-lite. With temps in the 80s, my two Aussie pups are experiencing their very first spring {they’re just 9 and 10 months old!}, and it’s been so fun watching them explore all the smells, chase bees, and try to catch the occasional bird on our walks.
But with the warmer weather and more time outside comes a little extra prep. Between the shedding {SO much shedding}, the muddy paws, and the warmer sidewalks, I’ve stocked up on a few essentials to help them stay comfy, safe, and happy all season long. Whether you’ve got a young pup or an older dog, here are some spring must-haves we’re loving right now.

1. Dog Bubbles
For outdoor fun with zero mess
These are hands down one of my favorite spring finds. I grabbed a set of dog-safe bubbles on Etsy, and my pups go nuts for them! They’re maple bacon-scented and made with pet-safe ingredients, so I feel totally fine letting them play- and I get to just stand there and enjoy the show.
→ Find them here on Etsy
2. Paw Balm
Protects their paws from hot pavement and dry weather
Out here in the desert, paw protection is a must. I keep a paw balm on hand to rub on their feet before and after walks- especially since sidewalks can heat up fast even in the spring. Look for one with natural ingredients like shea butter or coconut oil.
→ Get it on Amazon

3. Dog Wipes
Quick cleanups between baths
Between spring dust, pollen, and the occasional puddle, I go through a lot of dog wipes. They’re great for wiping paws after walks, cleaning around the face, or just freshening up in between baths. Bonus: they help keep the furniture a little cleaner, too.
→ Get them on Amazon or snag these ones at PetSmart
4. Dog Water Bottle with Bowl
Hydration on the go
We never leave home without a water bottle that the dogs can drink from! This one tips onto it’s side and pours water into the bowl section with the press of a button.
→ Get it on Amazon

5. Seasonal Toy
A fun way to switch things up
Spring is a great time to rotate in a new toy or two! I usually grab something fresh and themed- like a plush bunny or a carrot chew toy- to keep them entertained. Seasonal toys help avoid boredom and give your dog something exciting to play with when you’re not outside.
→ This is one of my dog’s favorite toys of all time
6. Brush for Shedding Season
Because wow—there’s fur everywhere
Both of my Aussies are blowing their coats right now, and it’s unreal how much fur comes off in just one brushing. A good deshedding tool or slicker brush can make a huge difference. I try to brush them outside a few times a week to help control the fluff.
→ This CHI brush is great

7. Dog-Friendly Sunscreen
Sun protection for sensitive pups
If your dog has a thin coat, light fur, or pink skin (like on their nose or belly), dog-safe sunscreen is a must- especially if they’ll be outside for extended periods. Human sunscreen can be toxic to dogs, so be sure to grab one specifically formulated for pets. I like to keep a small bottle in the car for hikes and park days.
→ Grab it on Amazon
8. Cooling Mat or Bandana
Keep your pup chill—literally
Even in spring, it gets hot fast in Vegas. A cooling mat is great for indoors, especially on carpet or in crates, and cooling bandanas are lightweight for walks. Both use evaporative cooling to help your pup regulate their temperature.
→ Get this cooling blanket from PetSmart or this mat from Amazon; or try this cooling bandana
9. Tick & Flea Prevention
Don’t let bugs ruin the fun
Spring brings out all the bugs. Make sure your pup is protected with a monthly flea and tick treatment. There are topical options, chews, and even natural sprays depending on your comfort level and your vet’s rec.
→ Talk to your vet about their recommendations for flea & tick prevention & treatment

10. Dog Car Seat Cover or Hammock
Protect your seats from muddy paws and fur
With more outdoor adventures this time of year, I highly recommend a dog seat cover for the car. Whether it’s a hammock-style or just a bench protector, it’ll save your seats from dirt, scratches, and wet fur. Most are machine washable and super easy to install.
→ Get this oversized one from Amazon
Spring is such a fun time for dogs- and their humans! A few small swaps and additions to your usual routine can help your pup feel more comfortable and excited to enjoy all that the season has to offer. Whether it’s a cute new toy or a practical item like paw balm, these dog spring must-haves have made a big difference for us already.
If you’ve got a favorite spring product or activity your pup loves, I’d love to hear about it! Drop it in the comments or send me a message- I’m always looking for fun ideas to try with my pups!
