I grew up buying Hello Kitty everything at the mall, so the second I heard that Hello Kitty Island Adventure was coming to the Nintendo Switch, it immediately went on my must-play list! I love a good cozy game, and I knew this one would check every box before I even started playing- cute characters, beautiful locations and a chill vibe.
Now that I’ve spent time playing it? I’m happy to say it’s every bit as adorable as I had hoped!
About the Game:
Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a cozy, story-driven game where you explore, craft, and make friends in a colorful Sanrio-themed world. You’ll meet and befriend iconic characters like My Melody, Badtz-Maru, Cinnamoroll, and Hello Kitty herself, each with their own charming personality and unique requests.
What I Loved:
The cozy, adorable art style: It’s bright, soft, and full of little details that bring the world to life.
The characters: Every Sanrio character has an entire personality! It’s been fun getting to “know” the characters I grew up buying merch for {looking at you, Pochacco and Chococat} as well as learning more about characters that I never really saw that much.
Quest system that works: There are SO many quests, but you’re never lost or overwhelmed. You can track and switch quests easily, and a helpful guiding light shows you where to go next if you get stuck.
Tons of content: There’s always something to do, from story-based goals to daily and weekly tasks. Whether you have 15 minutes or an hour, it’s easy to jump in and find the perfect tasks to complete.
Things to Know Before You Play
- Reading is a must: There’s quite a bit of text, so keep that in mind if you’re buying it for a younger kiddo. Everything in the game is very, very appropriate for all ages but be prepared to spend some time reading to kiddos who need help, especially in the beginning when you’re getting lots & lots of quests.
- It’s a slow burn- in a good way: The world is HUGE and it takes awhile to explore- and some tasks take time. It doesn’t feel like a grind though, it just always feels like there’s something new to explore!
