You could say I have a bit of an obsession with coffee mugs- and it’d probably be a bit of an understatement. I have a huge collection of mugs- some that are pretty, some that match me, and even some that remind me of others so that they can use them when they visit my house. But so many times I’ve thought of sayings or images that would be perfect on a mug for a friend or family member- and now I can actually make DIY coffee mugs for holiday gifts thanks to the Cricut Mug Press!

What is the Cricut Mug Press?
The Cricut Mug Press is a machine that lets you create your own custom mugs. Using Cricut Infusible Ink sheets, you can cut any design using your Cricut machine {I have a Cricut Explore Air 2} and then use the Cricut Mug Press to adhere the design to the mug. The best part? Unlike vinyl, these designs are literally infused into the mug, so you can’t feel them at all.
Are Cricut Mug Press mugs dishwasher safe? Microwave safe?
YES! One of the biggest benefits of using the Cricut Mug Press to design your mug is that the mugs are dishwasher safe and microwave safe, too!

Do you have to have a Cricut machine?
Technically, all you HAVE to have is the Cricut Mug Press and then either Infusible Ink sheets or Infusible Ink markers. The markers can be used without anything else, but the Infusible Ink sheets are just patterns or colors unless you cut out a design. You could in theory do this by hand but… you’re going to want to use a Cricut machine.
Do you have to use the Cricut mugs for the Mug Press?
Yep, you’ll need to use Cricut “blanks”, which are mugs that are compatible with the Infusible Ink system. Luckily, Cricut mugs are very reasonably priced and come in two sizes- 12 oz. and 15 oz. There is also a 15 oz. beveled mug that has a gray handle and gray coloring on the inside.

What materials do you need to make mugs with the Cricut Mug Press?
To make the Cricut Mug Press, you’ll need: Cricut Infusible Ink Sheets or Cricut Infusible Ink Markers, Cricut Mug Press blanks {12 oz | 15 oz | Beveled}, Cricut Mug Press, and a heat-resistant surface to allow the mug to cool on {I use the Cricut EasyPress mat but an oven mitt or similar would work, too}.
If using a Cricut machine to cut out your design, you’ll also need: Cricut Machine, Cricut Weeding Tool, Cricut Scraper Tool, and Cricut Standard Grip Mat.
How Can You Turn Customized Mugs into Great Holiday Gifts?
I absolutely love giving gifts- for the holidays and for any reason I can come up with the rest of the year. I take gift giving very seriously, and am known for the extra touches I add. So of course when I started thinking about giving custom coffee mugs as gifts, I started thinking about ways to turn them into a whole gift!
Below are five ideas I had for giving custom mugs as gifts:

Teacher Mug: Design a mug and fill it with colorful pens or other school supplies.

Dog Mom Mug: Fill a mug with {rawhide-free!} bones for the pup!

Grandma Mug: Fill with baking tools for creating memories together.

Friend Mug: Fill with tea bags to encourage her to spill the tea.

Monogram Mug: Fill with fancy cookies like macarons or biscotti.
Whoever you’re giving gifts to this year, I’m sure there’s a great mug for them- you just have to create it! {Or maybe the Cricut Mug Press will be the gift!}
