The other day, I was talking to my husband about Valentine’s Day. He was telling me that he might be out of town the second week of February, and it took a long time for me to even register that Valentine’s Day would be that Friday. Once we realized that, we immediately decided it was a non-issue- we don’t really do Valentine’s Day anyway. At least, not for each other.
Now that we’re married and have our own special day every year to celebrate our love, we don’t really need Valentine’s Day. Yes of course, you should celebrate each other 365 days a year {366 this year!} and all that, and we do, but it’s still nice to have a special day to reflect and reminisce and enjoy each other.
But if you do that on your anniversary instead of Valentine’s Day, odds are that restaurants will be WAY less crowded, your gifts {if you exchange any} will be better than a generic teddy bear with a fake rose, and you wouldn’t have spent the night before assembling 40 goodie bags for the kids to distribute at school. That is, unless you got married on Valentine’s Day!
Anyway my point is that nowadays, we use Valentine’s Day to celebrate our kids. We encourage them to share their love with their classmates and each other, and we share our love with them. We get them a little thing of chocolate and a small gift, and while I don’t think it’s necessary, we enjoy doing it. {Well, I do. Justin rolls his eyes.}
Sometimes I also like to make a special treat for dessert, and this Red Velvet Cookies & Cream Milkshake would be the PERFECT choice! It’s a festive color and so delicious- and it’s so rich and creamy, it’s definitely a treat for a special occasion! {Although if you want to make it on a random Tuesday, I’m not judging. It’s GOOD.}
Red Velvet Cookies & Cream Milkshake

However you celebrate Valentine’s Day, be sure to spend it with the ones you love! {Even if that’s just your pets- you can make them these special dog and cat treats!}
