I know, I know- it’s only April and you’re not ready to think about Halloween yet. While I totally get that, there’s one exception to that rule- if you’re planning on celebrating Halloween at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure! A few days ago, the all new Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure was announced and the time is NOW to start making your plan!
What is Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure?
Oogie Boogie Bash is the name of this year’s Halloween celebration at the Disneyland Resort- specifically at Disney California Adventure. This event will be replacing the Mickey’s Halloween Party that is typically held at Disneyland. Whether this is a temporary or permanent change is currently unknown, but I am sure it has a lot to do with Galaxy’s Edge opening at Disneyland this summer.
Oogie Boogie Bash will have all the fun and entertainment that you’re used to from Mickey’s Halloween Party! There will still be a parade, characters to see, and of course, trick or treating!
What makes Oogie Boogie Bash different than Mickey’s Halloween Party?
There’s one very obvious difference, which is that the party is being held at California Adventure instead of Disneyland. That means you’ll be trick or treating in different locations, riding different rides, and seeing different entertainment.
The spirit of the event will remain, and from the looks of it, there will be even more entertainment offered than usual!
What kinds of entertainment will be offered at Oogie Boogie Bash?
Check out all the amazing experiences that await at the Oogie Boogie Bash:
“Villainous!” – The new “World of Color” show weaves a Halloween tale about a young girl named Shelley Marie. This twisted tale carries Shelley on an unforgettable journey, exploring the villainous side of Disney characters through fountains, lights, lasers, projections and special effects. “Villainous!” shows that, deep down, there’s a little villain in all of us.
Redwood Creek Challenge Trail – Transformed into a wondrous and ethereal world of Disney villains unlike anything seen before, Redwood Creek will be tricked out in a dreamlike environment. This new experience unfolds in a series of scenes, each creating a hauntingly beautiful dream-space of color, sound, light and shadows, as stories emerge from the darkest night to create an enchanting world.
DescenDance – A new pulsing party in the Backlot area of Hollywood Land is inspired by the popular “Descendants” franchise from Disney Channel. As the DescenDance begins, a spell is cast, summoning the greatest dance crew from the Isle of the Lost to throw down and lead everyone in moves that are set to the biggest hit songs from the “Descendants” movies.
“Frightfully Fun Parade” – The guest-favorite parade is coming to Disney California Adventure park for the first time! The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow starts the procession, followed by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse who lead the cavalcade of characters and many mischievous Disney villains who are ready to stir up some trouble along the parade route.
Mickey’s Trick and Treat show – Perfect for young guests, this new, interactive stage production invites kids of all ages to join Mickey Mouse and his pals as they throw a one-of-a-kind Halloween party! Enjoy dancing, not-so-frightening scary-tales, and candy at the Disney Theater in Hollywood Land.
Character encounters – Meet beloved Disney characters – and villains, too. You may be surprised at who you discover at this Halloween party, ready for photos and greetings!
What about treats? Is there trick or treating at Disneyland California Adventure for Oogie Boogie Bash?
From the Disney Parks Blog: “Enjoy trick-or-treating at the new, wonderfully wicked treat trails throughout the park. Iconic characters such as Mad Hatter from Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” or even Oogie Boogie himself will surprise and delight. Additional treat trails will feature oversized cauldrons full of treats for all guests to enjoy.”
Are costumes allowed at the Oogie Boogie Bash?
Typically at Disneyland and California Adventure, only kids are allowed to dress in character. However, during the Halloween party {in this case Oogie Boogie Bash}, even adults can join in the fun! Costumes must adhere to Disney guidelines, which you can find here, and should not be obstructive or offensive. Some highlights:
- Costumes may not contain any items that resemble (or could easily be mistaken for) an actual weapon
- All Guests may dress as their favorite character during the event, but may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other Guests
- Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening

How much does it cost to attend?
Oogie Boogie Bash tickets range in price from $110 to $145 depending on the date you go. The closer you go to Halloween, the more you’ll pay for your ticket.
Annual Passholders do need a ticket for the event, but receive a $10 discount on four of the earliest party dates.
Do I need a separate park ticket?
When you buy a ticket to the Oogie Boogie Bash, you are permitted to enter California Adventure for a few hours prior to the party. {The Oogie Boogie Bash starts at 6pm PST.}
On Tuesdays and Thursdays {not including Oct. 29 and Oct. 31} you can enter the park three hours before the event starts {so 3pm} and on Sun nights and on Oct. 29 and Oct. 31 you may enter 4 hours in advance, so 2pm.
If you want to spend the entire day at the parks, you’ll need a separate ticket for the rest of the day. {Though you’re better off just adding another day on the day before or after so you aren’t just paying for a few hours!}

Traditionally some rides and even some entire lands get a Halloween makeover, including the Haunted Mansion turning into the Haunted Mansion Holiday and Radiator Springs becoming Radiator Screams and celebrating Haul-O-Ween. And of course, you can’t forget the GIANT Mickey pumpkin on Main Street!
