A few weeks ago, I got to see some of the original artwork {as well as some concept art} from Peter Pan, live in person. Not only did I get to see all of that beautiful artwork at the Animation Research Library, I also had the chance to check out Walt Disney’s office and participate in a Peter Pan themed scavenger hunt! With all of these downright magical experiences happening, and to celebrate the addition of Peter Pan to the Walt Disney Signature Collection, I had to make something I have wanted since I was a little girl- Pixie Dust Necklaces!
These are a super easy DIY and take just a couple of minutes and a few supplies to create. In fact, they would make for an excellent party favor for a Peter Pan or Tinker Bell birthday party- you could even set up a station where the guests could create their own necklaces with a little assistance from grown-ups!
Five Minute Crafts: DIY Pixie Dust Necklaces
Supplies:
Tiny Bottles with Corks
Glitter
Thread or cord
Hot Glue Gun + Glue Sticks
Funnel
Directions:
1. Select your glitter color{s} and use the funnel to slowly pour the glitter into the bottle. I highly recommend doing this over a plate or another surface that you could easily pick up and dump into the trash can after- you will spill glitter!
2. When your bottle is filled to your desired level, add a little bit of hot glue about halfway down the cork. This is just to hold the cork in place, you don’t need to use too much! {Be sure to assist kids with this step if applicable.} Insert the cork immediately upon gluing.
3. Grab your thread or cord and cut it to the length that you want plus one inch. At the halfway point of the thread, wrap it around the neck of the bottle and secure with a drop of hot glue.
4. Tie off the other ends of the string and then just tie it on behind your neck when you want to wear it!
This DIY is so crazy easy- but so fun! I used to pretend to spread pixie dust around my living room when I was a kid and always wanted some pixie dust of my own! I love how easy this one is to customize, too- you can use whatever color of glitter you like and even whatever thread or cord you like! I used this rose gold thread but there are so many fun options.
To celebrate the 65th birthday of the classic animated film, Peter Pan is available tomorrow on Blu-ray as part of the Walt Disney Signature Collection! Along with the movie, you can find lots of fun new features including:
- Stories from Walt’s Office: Walt & Flight – “Think of the happiest things, it’s the same as having wings”. One thing you’ll notice inside Walt Disney’s office are all of the models and pictures of airplanes. Walt loved planes and was an aficionado of flying. As a continuation of the “Stories from Walt’s Office” series, we’ll soar into the world of one of Walt’s favorite pastimes and look at the history behind the company airplane he used to scout Central Florida looking for the perfect place to build his second theme park.
- A “Darling” Conversation with Wendy & John: Kathryn Beaumont and Paul Collins – Join Disney Legend Kathryn Beaumont (the voice of Wendy) and Paul Collins (the voice of John) as they reunite for the first time in many years to reminisce and discuss their experiences working on Peter Pan, meeting Walt Disney and learning to fly … literally.
- “You Can Fly” – A new “Oke” rendition and graphic look of the classic Disney song, “You Can Fly,” with fun lyrics on screen and lots of your favorite “Peter Pan” characters.
- “Never Smile at a Crocodile” – A new “Oke” rendition and graphic look of the deleted song, “Never Smile at a Crocodile”, with fun lyrics on screen and highlighting the relationship between Captain Hook and Tick- Tock the Crocodile.
I had so much fun with the sing-along songs with my kids! My kids have heard “You Can Fly” about a thousand times already since it’s on our car playlist, so they especially loved that one! The “Never Smile at a Crocodile” feature was fun too- my boys loved teasing me about it because I’m afraid of crocs just like Hook {in fact, it’s likely because of Hook!}. The Walt’s Office feature was extra amazing though, especially because I was just there! In fact, I talked about the model planes in Walt’s office in my post about that experience- and the feature talks all about what they are and why they’re there!
Whether you’ve watched Peter Pan so often your old DVD is worn out {guilty} or you haven’t seen it since your own childhood, it’s always a great time to revisit Neverland. Be sure to pick up Peter Pan on Blu-ray combo pack when it comes out tomorrow, 6/5!
