Yesterday I mentioned that one of our favorite fall traditions is heading to the orchard. Another tradition that has been a family favorite since Shane was just a couple of years old has been heading down to a local ranch to see the farm animals! Every October, we head to the ranch to feed horses, chickens, goats, and bunnies and it’s one of my favorite things to do all year!
While it’s still a few weeks away from our annual visit, we’re already getting in the spirit with this fun DIY craft! We used discarded K-Cups to make these little guys and while we made a cow and a pig, you could make any animal that you like- or that your child is creative enough to come up with!
DIY Upcycled Farm Animal K-Cups Craft
Supplies:
Clean, used K-Cups
Pink spray paint or pink acrylic paint
White spray paint or acrylic paint{or you could simply save time and leave as-is if your K-Cups are white}
Black electrical tape
Black construction paper
Pink foam
Large black Sharpie marker
1 white pipe cleaner and 1 pink pipe cleaner
Googly eyes
Glue stick
Directions:
1. Spray each k-cup the desired color in a well ventilated area and allow them to dry about 1 hour. {Alternatively, paint with acrylic paint.} After an hour, check the coloring, if needed re-spray again {or repaint with acrylic} and let dry.
2. Give each animal a set of googly eyes.
3. Cut some some circles from the black electrical tape to give the cow some spots.
4. Cut 2 small ovals from the pink foam for the snouts and stick to the K-Cup with the glue stick. Use the black Sharpie marker to give each snout 2 black nostrils.
5. Cut 2 pink ears from the pink foam for the pig. Stick on with glue and set aside.
6. Cut out 2 ears from the black construction paper for the cow and use the glue stick to attach.
7. Lastly, cut (2) 1″ sections of pipe cleaner. Bend in half and use the scissors pointy end to make a hole in the top (bottom) of the K-Cup. Stick the ‘horns’ in the holes. Then do the same on the back of the pig with the pink pipe cleaner, curling into a cute little tail!
These little guys are sure to bring hours of pretend play fun and will definitely get the kids in the spirit for any fall activities you have going on!
