I love cooking dinner and try to do it at least five nights a week, but I don’t always have time to cook every single part of the meal from scratch. I love taking shortcuts in the kitchen in all different ways, but one of my favorite ways is by getting meal kits delivered. I love that I don’t have to come up with a fancy new dinner to try, and it saves me so much time scouring Pinterest for something we haven’t tried before. I’ve tried a few different services now and each one has their own pros and cons. All of them have one same major pro though- no grocery shopping!
The latest meal delivery service that I tried is Gobble, which promises meals that are ready in 10 minutes. The ingredients are fresh, not frozen, and some of the ingredients come partially prepared for you which helps cut down on cook time. Read on to see if the meals delivered on their promises, what I liked about the service, and tips for using Gobble! {Also check out the AMAZING discount code below!}
First Impressions
The other meal services I’ve tried sent all of the ingredients to make the meal- but didn’t do any of the prep for you. While some of the ingredients from my Gobble meals were still whole or raw {like the raw meat and uncut cherry tomatoes}, a lot of the ingredients were prepared already. There were premade sauces that would have taken me a long time and many working parts to assemble, salad dressing that was premade so I didn’t have to make it from scratch, and even some precut squash!
I loved that the ingredients for each meal were all bagged together {aside from the meat, which was kept separately} so that when I was ready to cook that night, I could just pull the bag out and get to work rather than hunting for each ingredient in my fridge. I also noticed that all of the ingredients looked particularly fresh- nothing was wilted, and nothing looked questionable, which is no easy task for shipping fresh food to a house in Vegas in June.
I also saw that they included two chocolate chip cookies {in cookie dough form} which I thought was a really cute touch. My boys definitely appreciated this as well!
Meal One: Wild Mushroom Bolognese with Spinach Pappardelle & Spring Vegetables
The first meal that I made was probably also the easiest. The pasta just needed a few minutes in a pot, the spring vegetables were pre-chopped, and the wild mushroom bolognese was prepared for me and just needed to be heated up! We actually made this as a late lunch on a day that we were starving and it ended up being so filling that we skipped dinner. The meal was delicious and only took a few minutes to get onto plates.
Meal Two: Seared Beef Filet & Roasted Tomato Stuffed with Basil Pesto Orzo
I like my beef well done, and Justin likes his medium-rare {but closer to rare than medium}. These perfectly portioned filets were so easy to cook to our preferences, and the instructions even included directions for making them to each degree of doneness. The beans were okay but could have used a little more seasoning, but man that tomato blew us away! That stuffed tomato is actually going to be something I make on my own in our regular dinner rotations because Justin and I both went crazy for it and I’m so glad I discovered this dish!
Meal Three: Wagyu Beef Cheeseburger with Mushrooms & Truffle Aioli {with Side Salad}
This was a dinner that Justin and I made as a team. It was definitely easy enough that I could have made it myself in just a few minutes, but when the kids aren’t jumping all over the place and we have a few moments, we like to cook together sometimes as a way to spend time together. This meal was perfect for that as he assembled the patties, I cooked them and added the cheese, he toasted the buns, and I made the salad. That burger was amazing and the Aioli that it came with was so good, I wish I could just buy a jar of it. It did come with a generous amount of it so I have it in my fridge for the next time we have burgers!
Any problems?
Just one. I received the wrong recipe card for one of my meals, but I just emailed customer service and was emailed the right one within a few hours. However, I would definitely check the recipe cards that you get as soon as you get the box because even though the customer service was fast, I didn’t realize I had the wrong recipe until I was getting ready to make the meal and so I ended up having to push that meal back a night so that I could make it properly.
Worst case scenario, you could always try to wing it if you know your way around the kitchen- but if you don’t, or you want to make it according to the intended directions, then you’ll want to know in advance and get that recipe swapped out. I do wish they had the recipes available online like another service I’ve used did because then it would just be available at your fingertips, which is also helpful if you tend to misplace things or just prefer using your phone or iPad to cook. On the flip side, I liked haing the cards so that I could file them to pull up later and remake the recipes!
Final thoughts?
Overall, I really liked this service and would definitely try it again. The portions were generous, the foods were things that I enjoyed, and it definitely cut down on time spent in the kitchen!
