I’ve always loved family movies for so many reasons. They are entertaining, fun, and even more importantly- they teach lessons. No matter what the movie is, there’s always a great lesson to be learned!
The newest family movie from Lionsgate, Norm of the North, is no exception. The movie is about a friendly and talkative polar bear and his journey to New York City. He is on a mission to prevent his home from being overtaken by greedy developers, and with his friends by his side, he takes the Big Apple by storm! Along the way, Norm faces lots of new experiences and a lot of things that he’s unfamiliar with, but he continues on and tries to save the day!
Shane has a tendency to get very, very anxious when ever something new is coming. Whether it’s a new school year or a change in schedule, Shane always has a bit of an adjustment period to any changes. We always work together as a family to make him feel better, but sometimes you just need something more than that. I am so excited to take Shane to see Norm of the North in the hopes that seeing Norm face new things head-on might encourage Shane to do the same!
The movie comes out tomorrow, and to celebrate, we had a Norm of the North afternoon! First we put on our Norm of the North socks- and then we made our own Polar Bear Paper Plates! They were super easy to make- even Zac was able to help!
Paper Plate Polar Bears Craft
Supplies:
Paper plates
White tissue paper
School glue
Large black pompoms
Wiggly eyes
White cardstock
Pen
Scissors
Optional: Black marker
Directions:
1. Tear the white tissue paper into small strips. This is a really fun step so get the kids involved!
2. Flip the paper plate upside down & glue the tissue paper down to the bottom of it. We did a few layers {two full layers for me and a third in some spots; three layers for Shane because he liked this part}. Allow to dry for at least 10 minutes- more if your kids go a little glue-heavy like mine did.
3. Glue on black pompom nose and wiggly eyes!
4. Draw two circles on your cardstock {get a great circle by tracing an upside-down cup!} and cut them out. Glue them to the sides of the plate as ears. {The easiest way I found to do this was to glue the strip of plate that they’d be attached to and just set the plate down on the paper.}
5. Once all the glue is dry, you can add any features you’d like to with your marker, like coloring in the ears {like Shane’s} or drawing on a mouth if desired. I thought my polar bear was pretty cute without one so I skipped it. Get creative!
