I’m making my way through my shopping list, but with less than two weeks left I’m finding it hard to find a gift for some people on my list. The other day Shane asked what my favorite food was and one of the first things that came to mind? Cereal!
I remember being a little girl and visiting my aunt’s house. She had a whole shelf in her pantry dedicated to cereal for her teenage children and I thought it was the most magnificent thing ever. Now that I’m an adult, we have the same in our home! I’ve always been a big fan of cereal and while my days of eating it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner are behind me, it’s still hands down one of my favorite foods. So I thought- how could you make cereal into a fun gift?
This DIY Cereal Lovers Gift Basket is a perfect holiday gift for that college student in your life who lives in the dorms, for the teacher who doesn’t want their 50th “A+ Teacher” ornament, or that friend who just really loves cereal {hi, that’s me}. It’s kind of perfect for anyone though because honestly, who doesn’t love cereal? Oh, and did I tell you it’s incredibly easy to make?
Supplies:
-Two food-grade glass ornaments- I went with the bigger ones.
-A bowl and spoon
-Tissue paper
-Basket
-Medium sized funnel or a clean, new piece of paper
-Serving spoon or other large spoon
-Fruity Pebbles and/or Cocoa Pebbles
-Free Printable Gift Tags {Download them below!}
-Twine or other ribbon
Directions:
To make the ornaments, use either your funnel or the clean & new piece of paper rolled up into a funnel. Use the spoon to scoop the cereal from the box into the funnel- I found that it was easier when I poured the cereal into a bowl before scooping, rather than scooping directly from the box. Be sure to hold the ornament tight so it doesn’t roll away!
Attach free printable gift tags to the ornaments by stringing them through with twine or ribbon. You can find 3 styles of tags below, including one perfect for the colorful Fruity Pebbles, one perfect for the sweet Cocoa Pebbles, and one perfect for either variety!
To assemble the basket, place tissue paper in the bottom of the basket. Include bowl, spoon, and cereal-filled ornaments. You’re done!
The fun thing about this basket is that it’s easy to customize. If you’re buying it for a teacher, a basket with a chalkboard on the front would be a cute touch. If it’s for a college student, you could consider tucking in a few boxes of shelf-stable milk to go with it. You can even choose the bowl based on the color or style preferences of your recipient!
I went with Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles for this gift basket for a few reasons. First of all, they are two of my own personal favorite cereals, and we always have a box of each in the house. Secondly, the pieces are small so they fit really well not just in the ornament itself but also in the funnel. Third, Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles have been a family favorite for over 40 years, making it a pretty safe bet that your recipient may have a fondness for them, too. And finally, the beautiful colors of Fruity Pebbles and the perfect cocoa flavor of Cocoa Pebbles make them perfectly giftable!
