I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest lately, and my list of ice cream recipes to try is growing out of control. One that really stuck with me a few weeks ago though was a deep fried ice cream recipe. I knew it’d be delicious because it’s ice cream, but I’m not really big on frying things when I don’t have to. I set out to find a way to make a no-fry version of fried ice cream and I’m pretty pleased with how this one turned out!
Ingredients:
Your favorite ice cream {I recommend DREYER’s SLOW CHURNED Ice Cream- any flavor will work!}
4 cups honey oat cereal, crushed
3-4 tbsp grass fed butter, melted
2 tbsp agave nectar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
Whipped topping, optional
Directions:
1. Mix the crushed cereal, 3 tbsp melted butter, agave nectar, and ground cinnamon in a medium sized bowl. If the mixture is really thick and clumpy, add up to 1 more tbsp melted butter. {I ended up using just over 3.5 tbsp.}
2. Using your hands, roll up a ball of ice cream and coat with mixture. Place each ball in a silicone cupcake wrapper or in a muffin tin.
3. Freeze for at least 30 minutes. Serve as is or as a topping for a regular serving of ice cream. Optionally, top with whipped topping and sprinkled ground cinnamon.
This recipe was definitely indulgent, but a little goes a long way because it’s very rich! It was very yummy and a nice alternative to actual deep fried ice cream. I used DREYER’s SLOW CHURNED Ice Cream in this recipe because it has half the fat and 1/3 of the calories than regular ice cream. Combined with the agave and cereal, this recipe isn’t nearly as bad for you as the original recipe!
There are so many different varieties of DREYER’s SLOW CHURNED Ice Cream that you can find something for everyone. I made these using vanilla, but we also bought Shane’s favorite {Rocky Road}. My whole family loves DREYER’s SLOW CHURNED Ice Cream because it tastes exactly like regular ice cream! It’s easy to find, too- I pick it up at my usual grocery store {Albertson’s}, which is right down the block.
