Nothing brings back memories faster than scent- especially during the holidays! Whether a whiff of pine brings you back to cutting down trees as a kid or the smell of baking reminds you of decorating sugar cookies with your own kids, there are so many wonderful holiday scents!
To recreate the sensational smells of the season, you don’t have to buy expensive store potpourri- you can make your own holiday potpourri at home! Making your own holiday potpourri not only makes your house smell delicious, but it can even be given as a gift. Take a peek below at how to craft your own in just minutes. In no time your space will be smelling like the holidays have officially arrived!
Supplies needed:
1 glass jar
3-5 fresh pine branches
1-2 small pine cones
Peel from 1 orange, or 1 entire orange dried
2-3 cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon of cloves
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of nutmeg
Ribbon
You can find most of these supplies at your local grocer and in nature. For the oranges if you choose to dry your own, just thinly slice them and place them directly on your oven rack at 275 degrees for two hours.
Directions:
1. Combine all of the ingredients into your jar. It makes no difference how you arrange them as long as they all fit!
2. Cover with your lid. You can add some scrap fabric over the lid if you wish. {This is a nice touch if giving this as a gift.}
3. Wrap a length of ribbon around the jar. You can also include a paper tag such as we did with the directions on how to prepare the potpourri.
To use your potpourri, pour the contents of the jar into a sauce pan. Add 3 cups of water and set the heat on a low simmer. In no time, the contents will warm up and release tons of fragrance into the room. When done, take the contents off of the heat. You can cover the pot and use the mixture several times over the next few days.
Gather your supplies and give this easy holiday potpourri a try!
