This weekend is a very special one for us- we’re at Disneyland! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen some pics from our road trip & the park. We timed our trip to coincide with the first weekend of holiday decorations at Disneyland and we are so excited!
This weekend kicks off a busy season of travel. Whether you’re heading home to see relatives or taking advantage of the two-week break from school, you may find yourself on a road trip sooner or later this season. It can be hard keeping kids entertained for long hours in small spaces, so I’ve put together a list of some great road trip activities you can do to help pass the time!
I’ll let you know how they work out for us on the way home! {It was too dark on the way up since we drove at night and it gets dark at practically noon these days.}
Alphabet Game: Players take turns finding words that begin with each letter of the alphabet in order. For example, the first player might start with “A” and say “apple,” and the second player might continue with “B” and say “banana.”
20 Questions: One player thinks of an object, and the other players take turns asking yes-or-no questions to try to guess what it is. The game ends when someone correctly guesses the object or when the players run out of questions.
Would You Rather: Players take turns asking each other “would you rather” questions, where the other players have to choose between two options. For example, “Would you rather live in a treehouse or a castle?”
Name That Tune: One player hums or sings a few bars of a song, and the other players try to guess what the song is. You can give extra points for guessing the artist or the album, too.
I Spy: One player chooses an object within sight and says “I spy with my little eye something that is [color].” The other players take turns guessing what the object is until someone gets it right.
The Name Game: One player chooses a category (like “fruits” or “movies”), and then players take turns naming something in that category. The catch is that each new answer has to start with the last letter of the previous answer. For example, if the category is “animals,” the first player might say “elephant,” and the second player could say “toucan.”
Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament: Players pair up and play rock-paper-scissors to see who wins. The winners move on to play each other, and so on, until there’s a grand champion.
5-Second Rule: One player names a category (like “types of fruit”), and the other players take turns trying to name three things in that category within five seconds. You can make it more challenging by choosing more difficult categories or shortening the time limit.
Rhyme Time: One player says a word, and the other players take turns saying words that rhyme with it. You can set a time limit or a rule that each player can only use each word once.
What’s your favorite road trip distraction?
