I’ve been talking about car seat safety a lot lately, and even shared some car seat safety tips from Chicco. I was also recently fortunate enough to receive their NextFit convertible car seat to review, and I have been very impressed. Chicco definitely practices what they preach- their car seat has a ton of safety features that make me feel confident & secure about my child’s safety.
One of the first concerns about car seat safety is that a large percentage of car seats are not even installed correctly. The NextFit prevents this in a few ways. First, there’s a level built right in that lets you know if your car seat is angled properly, both for rear and forward facing. When Shane was rear-facing, he was in an infant carrier, so I love having a car seat with a level to show me if I’m doing it right since I’ve never had to properly position a rear-facing full car seat before.
The car seat also has what they call the ReclineSure 9-position Leveling System, which you can use to adjust the angle of your car seat depending on your particular vehicle. There is no one-size-fits-all with how the actual seats of vehicles are angled, so it just makes sense to be able to adjust the carseat to the proper position.
One of Justin’s favorite parts of this car seat is the ease of installation. He’s the one who gets stuck installing the car seats around here, because even when I try I typically can’t do it. {&Even if I can, I’m always worried that the amount of struggle it put me through means I didn’t do it right.} The NextFit has a SuperCinch LATCH tightener that makes it much easier to make sure the LATCH is tight & secure.
While we’ve only had the chance to test this car seat out with Shane {since baby isn’t here yet}, we’re planning on this being baby brother’s car seat since he will be able to use it for years & years to come. There are so many features that make it easy to grow with your child, the 2-position chest clip {to accommodate both rear and forward-facing settings} and 6 headrest positions.
It’ll be a few months before baby brother rides in it, but Shane has been happy to try it out for him. He really likes it & since it’s a bit bigger than his other car seats, he likes being able to see more while he’s in it. The padding in it is very soft so I can tell it must be a cozy ride, and it comes in a variety of colors to suit anyone’s preference.
While I look forward to sharing baby’s experience in it, I can already say that due to the ease of use, clarity of instructions for installation & safety measures, and overall quality of the seat, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a car seat. It can accommodate children 5-40 lbs. in rear-facing mode {great for extended rear-facing!} and 22-65 lbs. in forward-facing mode.
Buy It: You can find the NextFit by Chicco at various online & in-store retailers for the MSRP of $299.99.
Note: I received the Chicco NextFit to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.
